trainman203

Tenwheeler:  Trainman203 are you referring to Decapods that had the LCs in them?

TM203:  no, not LC, mine were the ones with "DCC/Sound on board."  I still have a couple of engines with those early decoders and they run just fine. The only drawback is that they only have three whistles, and Bachmann's idea of a good Whistle was never the same as mine 😳🫨😂. The "B&O 3-chime" never sounded like a train to me, more like a boat in the harbor.   But it was a favorite of someone at Bachmann, that 🤬🤬 whistle was one of 3 in every one of those early decoders.🫨😱

Decoders don't have to be all that involved.  The four or five CVs I listed are all you need to get your engine to crawl.  I've never changed CVs 5 and 6 nor have I ever fooled with speed curves, never needed to. Of course, I'm all steam, a dying breed, never had to deal with consisting or any of that stuff.
