n gauge turnouts

new to the hobby. why is there a dead spot in 2 of my turnouts. some are saying not to use nails to secure track. what is the best way?

Flip the turnout over and look at the two wires than do not connect to anything electrical - put them both on the same tiny screw - that will "power the frog" and may well solve Your problem
