Such a deal I have for you.  Not one, but two Bachmann USRA 0-6-0s, both kitbashed with Life Like 0-8-0 ponys, so you'd have operating front couplers (supplied).  In addition, each locomotive comes with not one, but two tenders, one a standard rectangular and the other a slope back tender.  Both locomotives are of recent vintage and run smoothly and pull several cars.  (I can test to see how many 40' boxcars each will pull on straight, flat track.)  You will need to at least reletter them as they are both lettered for the VT&P or the CB&W.
Why would I make such an offer?  Switcher abundance (three Life Like USRA 0-8-0's, one IHC USRA 0-8-0, a Proto 2000 SW-9, and a Con-Cor SW-9.)  And, of course, I'm trying to be helpful.   ;D

Ah the slippery slope from model railroader to locomotive collector.  Sooner or later we all take the slide.  The downward spiral starts off with "just one more" and it's all down hill from there.  But man, what a ride!
Growing older is mandatory but growing up is optional.

I know what you mean. I spent over a thousand bucks in one month on motive power. But I did get a good deal. Two of the engines alone retailed at over seven hundred, I paid less than three. Just picked up an IHC B&O "Big six."

BTW- I'm also a B&O RR fan. The old main line passes my house here in Brunswick, MD. The origional tracks were laid here over 170 years ago.

I guess I had better read and heed.  I am a one month newbie into model railroading.  My vices were all toward Radio Controlled model aircraft since I am a retired USAF birdman.  So far all I have bougt are three F7A Santa Fe Super Chief engines and two B units.  I have picked up 12 passenger cars in various stages of disrepair.  Most of my work right now is just getting rid of all the horn and hook couplers, and I'm driving Sam nuts at kadee with questions about replacement knuckles ;D

BTW, I am also a B&O fan.  I lived in Owings Mills, Md for 20 years while I was working for NASA at Goddard Space Flight  Center.  The old Western Marlyland tracks ran right behind my apartment.  As for Brunswick, I spent a lot of time roaming around that pretty little town on weekends. If you have not been to the old B&O museum in Balimer you have really missed a great adventure.  Ooooops, I forgot to mention that my only steam loco is a Bachmann 2-6-0, and I think it is a Forney but I'm not sure. It is a part of the John Wayne Duke Express set.

Funny you said that. I don't like the headlight in the center of the firebox door and the funny looking vanderbilt tender. Will a Bachman tender match up? How hard was it to swap shells?

RE: Jesse- My buddy works in the Maint. Deptartment at Nasa Goddard. I've done work there myself as contractor. My wife and I have been to the Museum in "Balimer"; can't get enough of it.

Jesse,
Your 2-6-0 is not a Forney.  The Forneys were a specific type of locomotive construction, like Heisler or Climax, not a wheel arrangement.  Yours is a standard rod steamer.

Thank you, kind sir.  I don't know where I got the idea it was a Forney.  I would not know which engine is which.  I am still in the learning phase. All I really know is....it ain't Big Boy.

Welcome.  Yours is a 2-6-0 because it has one set of pony or leading wheels, three sets of drivers, and no trailing wheels.  It was called a Mogul and served from the latter part of the 19th century intil the early 20th century.  A Big Boy was a 4-8-8-4.  Long time regulars will know that I now must mention the finer 2-6-6-6 Allegheny or Blue Ridge, which unfortunately lacked the PR enjoyed by the BB.  ::)

BaltoOhioRRfan,

Do you have a layout yet? Are you planning one? There is nothing wrong with buying locos. I consider myself pretty well disciplined when it comes to buying stuff for my railroad, and I have over 70 locos total, all powered, no dummy units.

We have a saying in our local group, locomotives should be bought in groups of no less then two! It is part of the idea of keeping a prototypical look to your fleet.

But once you decide on a theme and plan for a layout you will be focused on just purchasing what you need to fit that layout. Collecting will seem less important once you get involed in operating and building a layout.

chucknlead, for the tender all I did was take the spectrium Vanderbuilt tender and swaped the boreds with teh IHC one. very easy to do. for the boiler it took some modifying of the Rivarossi shell. Mine is still under weight but i'm trying to fix that...

Sheldon, I am currently in the negoation phase trying to take mty dad into where i want to put it. Once i get the territory done then the planning will begin.( I feel like I'm in a court room when it comes to negotionation days)
