I recently purchased a 2-8-0 DCC on board Bachman locomotive that runs very nice and quite.  It is actually belt driven between the motor and the worm gears. The tender is already set up for speaker installation.  The decoder is in the tender.  Questions= 10 Can I install sound? 2) What do I need to
get to install? 3) Can I install with out soldering or and major changes to existing equipment?
Thanks Jim

This should be in the HO forum but it will get moved.

You will have to solder two wires to the speaker with a fine tip soldering iron.

I can only recommend SoundTraxx as that is the brand Bachmann puts into their sound locos. Bachmann dose not sell sound decoders.

Below is more info on the SoundTraxx decoder and how to hook up the sound decoder without having to solder the wires to an eight pin plug. Clip the caps off the PC board. The PC board components are labeled. The two coils, inductors, are not an issue without the caps. Been there, done that. Some PC boards show two what looks like green resistors which are inductors.

Spend a lot of time in his site if you are new to DCC.

Below is another example but you have to solder wires to the plug. The 9 pin to 8 pin adapter avoids that issue.

Some prefer to rip out the PC board and hard wire but if not familiar with soldering, it can be an issue. If you loco has an LED, you need a 1k, 1/4 watt resistor for the LED when you rip out the PC board.
Another issue with hard wire is Bachmann does not use NMRA wiring colors the last I knew.
