Mr. Bach Man;

I want to install a DCC decoder in one of my Large Scale 4-6-0's.

If I do, will the chuff-chuff circuit still function properly with the
chuff contacts connected to the DCC track power instead of
normal DC.

Thanks.

Any help will be appreciated.

The chuff contacts are in no way connected to the  track as in the Annie the chuff circuit is isolated. Wiring the Annie or DCC is a little tricky. Check out this site for great info on how to do it.

I have an Annie conversion to do over the winter and will be using a QSI Magnum decoder. A cheaper option I used in an Indy, a similar install to the MRC 1819. The MRC does not use a chuff sensor but can be adjusted to work pretty well.

Good luck. Peter.

The hardest part of the conversion is removing the boiler from the locomotive.  Lots of screws.

The DCC installation is simple.  Remove the two wires going to the motor and attach them to the decoders track input.  Install two new wires from the decoders motor output to the motor.

Connect the two headlight to the decoders front light and decoder +

Reinstall the boiler.

The existing sound unit is battery powered and will work as it did before.  You can also replace this with any other sound unit you desire.

Anton, you may also find this useful. The LGB Mogul lacks a chuff sensor so in some ways this is a slightly harder install, but the principle is the same.

Good Luck. Peter.
