Are you talking about the traction tires? You can usually get replacements for them from hobby shops.

lanny

I would guess that Ben is pretty much on 'target' with assuming you have 'traction tires' on your locomtoives.

If they are old, take them to your local hobby shop and see if they can get replacements. It may depend on how old and what mfg.

Also, if some wheels just 'spin' without going anywhere, you may have a problem with the gears ... they may be broken or stripped or, perhaps, just need some adjustment.

There are some real 'experts' on this forum who will be able to give you some great advice ... but I think you might need to give a bit more information about the kind of locomotives (steam or diesel), the brand/mfg, and what wheels are spinning, i.e., those with 'tractions tires' ('rubber band' looking treads) or just the all metal wheels.

best wishes on getting them all running!

Lanny is right.  The model maker, type of locomotive - at least steam or diesel, gauge,  all would help sorting out the problems.

New Meat,

First of all, we all want to help.  And we can more specifically if you tell us more about what you want to do and what you've got.

I work in Large Scale, I haven't seen a traction tire since the Bachmann Battery powered Big Hauler and it had plastic wheels.  Other than that
I guess going to you local hobby shop is a good suggestion.

BUT, if you had asked your question in the scale/gauge heading you are seeking help in a lot more help could be given to you.  So I guess what I am saying is help us; help you.

NM, not a rant just a little unrequested help.

I wonder if "New Meat" has some old Athearn locos with rubber band drives?

That is a whole different subject......

Does it look like this?

Barry, I have an Aristo RS-3 that came with traction tires.  Traction was little better than other RS-3s without the tires.  But power pickup ... well, lets just say that I swapped trucks with another Aristo Alco that was battery R/C and pickup didn't matter.  Fortunately, Aristo had the good sense to go back to all metal wheels on the next batch.  But whether  New Meat has large scale, H0, or something else again, it is hard to tell.
Growing older is mandatory but growing up is optional.

I just finished restoring a Hi-F "A" and "B".
Quiet, but as fast as I remembered 50 years ago.

I see you have knuckles.
You dont't happen to have any of the LONG X2F couplers fot the front of those laying around?

I've got boxes, springs and screws, plus the short couplers, but need two long ones to finish off these units.

Sorry I don't have any Hi-F parts. The loco isn't mine. The photo is from an internet article on how to rebuild an Athearn Hi-F.

Curmegeon, what do you want X2F couplers for?  Are you restoring it to "as delivered"?   I probably have some, but they're painted rust in a gondola load!
