Size/scale of J&S kits

I was recently at my LHS looking at the J&s coach kits.  I didn't have them out of the box, but holding the box next to the prebuilt big hauler coach, it looked like the kit version was shorter.  Are the kits a different scale than the Pre-built? Maybe 1:24? Or was it just my eyes.

Kits and pre-build J&S coaches are the same size.  They a 1:22.5 scale.

I just assumed these would be 1:20 and was getting ready to order but now I'm rethinking. Besides the various spectrum engines, what cars are 1:20?

I believe everything in the Spectrum line is 1:20.3.  Everything in the Big Hauler line is (roughly) 1:22.5.

Hi,  There are some 1:20.3 items that are not Spectrum such as the Davenport, and the newest Lyn.

To me the Bachmann J&S coaches look fine behind  some 1:20.3 locos  like the 4-4-0 , 2-6-0.

So mostly engines......but few cars and no passenger stuff?  Why so many engines if they aren't doing the cars to match?

There are a bunch of other companies making 1:20.3 rolling stock even J&S passenger cars and the market is not as big as one might think.  Profits must be made.

Have both kit and factory built versions of cars, same car from same molds.

I'm calling my Big Hauler stuff 1/24 whether it is or not, the 1/24 scale figures on hand look decent with the cars, and that settles that as far as I care
