Assembled Lighted Station Question

We just bought a Bachmann HO scale train for Christmas. 

We also got the Figure 8 pier set

The Sunnyvale Train Station was also included, and when I took it out of the box there were two exposed wires protruding that I assume somehow can be connected somewhere to light up the station.  I am a novice with regards to electrical hookups so I want to make sure I don't screw something up for my son.

My questions:

1.  Are the wires supposed to be exposed like that, and if so:

2.  How do you hook them up?  There was no instructions in our box

they goto the acssory terminal on the power pack if you want and i would sujest this is get a switch from radioshack just 12volt one and connectit in between the house and the power pack so you can decide wether or not the power is on or not.
