We have just purchased 2 new trains and we are having trouble getting the engines to operate on our DCC system and would like some assistance.
We are using a Hornby Select Digital Control unit.
1.    Engine BL 2310 Chesapeek & Ohio only plays the sound from the tender when on track.  Engine does not move.  The control unit was on "3" setting which we believe is the factory setting of engine.  We also tried the engine on our analogue track.  Only played sound on this track as well.  No life in the engine.  Any clues??
2.   BAC 50907 Berkshire - This train operated well on our analogue track.  When on DCC track on 03 factory setting it worked intermittently and also changed direction without us touching the controls.
We wondered if it was the controller that was at fault but when we run our Hornby DCC engines they run correctly.
The controller was only purchased recently  and this is only the fourth time we have used it.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks
Mick

Suggest you contact and question the Hornby Select Digital Control digital waveform compatibility with the DCC decoders installed in the locomotives you have.

Are the controller and engines both set for the same number of speed steps?

I just viewed a couple of video here on youtube about what Controllers are not NMRA Certificated. May want to check in to that.
One of the Hornby controller is not NMRA Certificated. It will run the Hornby DDC but not other manufactures Locomotives.
