I wish you would have read this/understood railexpert. I am not talking about any of the ideas you suggest I "search" for. I am not talking about "dealing" with the rear overhang or extra long coupler. I am working on making this "not" overhang so bad on curves. Do you have a reference you can point me toward?

I do like the looks of the cut apart ones but do want a Forney to remain Fornyish. One could turn down the rear set of drivers but I am wondering if maybe a little investication might find a good swap.

Not trying to beat a dead horse. The Forney was wonderful aside from the operating troubles on corners.
Just daydreaming, what if a person replaced the rear drivers with blind drivers and eliminated the side to side movement of the rear truck? This would bother some people looking directly at wheels on track around corners. From most peoples perspective though it would ok and in fact may look better too most since there would not be the rear overhang on curves. These locos are too fun to put on the shelf. Of course if someone could figure out a Mason Bogie that would be fun also.

Not to intrude, but I have just been needing the same and have wondered if I should just buy the complete truck assembly.

I could get by with those restrictions but I would seriously hope that all model railroaders considering marriage need to have a well planed pre-nuptial real estate agreement. This comes up far too often.

 When sound first started to be added I thought that you could have your loco programed on a DCC system then operate it on DC with limited function. What do you get when running a sound equiped loco on regular DC?

Good ideas, I am considering using cab, stack, headlight and bell from a dead porter. Anything that I can hacksaw, I mean Razor Saw and glue works for me. The HO 0-6-0 is such a good running loco I just have to put one on my On30 "Allegan & Lake Shore R.R." even though in reality they used just a T-Boiler Shay which I have one of Bachmann's already backdated.

I want to take a step back and convert an HO locomotive to On30. I have done some search but can't find as much on the topic as there was just a few years ago. I want this to be a fun project. Has anyone seen any good step by step tutorials on the web? Has anyone done one they could share pictures of. I figure to change cab, stack, headlight. Then eventually a larger bell, domes etc.

I would start by making all new purchases be body mounted couplers. Spend your time and money on fun stuff not coupler conversions. If you find a spare minute and have a favorite car maybe convert it to body mounted. You can religate your old stock to less active duty. If you want to tinker thats fine. If you like to buy more cars thats fine. Have fun.

The Forney is what it is and in real life it did not do what we are trying to do in our little world. Many spent their life going back and forth. Some never went through a switch in their life. A #4 turnout that goes off somewhere is a lot more doable than a #4 that creates a passing track which also creates an "S" curve in a short space. Maybe your RR needs to make a rule for where the Forney can not go. Just as the UP had track they never took a BIG BOY. Use it where it works best and looks it's best.
I am trying to choose between the Forney and an inside frame 4-4-0 to pull a combine and a passenger car. This short train will not do any switching so I just need something fun.

The last T-Boiler shay built was CN 1516 in 1905. There were the CN 117 & CN119 that were 3 truck but only one tender. What BVM does is offer us On30er's a simple 3 truck version that goes along with On30 rules; Do what you want and have fun.

If it can take 18" radi in both directions I would not worry, just run it.
