Yes. the hawkinsrails.net, below, is a great site.  I found  a photo of Southern #1092, identifying the locomotive as part of the F-14 CLASS including #'s 1085 to 1112, built from 1911 to 1914, and all retired by 1947.  Further exploration of the site leads to additional technical characteristics of the locomotives in the F-14 CLASS. Highly informative. Thank you.

The site above, http://southern.railfan.net/images/archive/southern/steam/460/450.htmi   provided by ebtnut, has photos of 11 of the locomotives in the F-14 CLASS including #1087, the prototype I have been searching for.  I wonder how and why Bachmann selected that locomotive to model.

Thank you.  I checked out the site.  I found a wealth of interesting information and photographs relevant to both history and modeling.

HO / Baldwin 4-6-0 Southern #1087

I am looking for information about the prototype of the Baldwin 4-6-0 Southern #1087.  There are many listings for a railroad using the name "SOUTHERN" in combination with other names.  I would like to know the actual railroad and time period for this locomotive. I found a  listing for a "COLUMBIA SOUTHERN" railroad in Oregon, but cannot tell is that is the railroad of the prototype.  There was also a "SOUTHERN" railroad in the South that I believe had a terminal at Columbia, SC.
