A message for our UK members (and visitors).

The 2014 Telford Narrow Gauge show takes place on SATURDAY, 12th July this year, note the change of day to Saturday.

I have attended past shows and always seem to have had a good time, in some cases spending a lot longer than intended. Past shows have had a good mix of modelling scales, gauges and prototypes and it usually draws in a number of specialist narrow gauge suppliers and interest groups.

Further details available at:- http://www.ukmodelshops.co.uk/events/9396-TelfordNarrowGaugeShow

The World Heritage site of Ironbridge Gorge, the cradle of the Industrial Revolution in England is a couple of miles south and worth a visit, if only for the hot pie shop at the end of the bridge (highly recommended by my wife).

And for those afflicted with domestic baggage, who might not otherwise be able to attend, the venue is not far from the Telford Central shopping area and other retail parks, and recreation facilities for little kiddies.

The original source for the Laurel River model is http://maineon2faq.wordpress.com/2013/03/23/doug-macleods-lrhs-james-wyman/   and the site contains other information that may be of use to the Maine Two Foot enthusiast and modeller.

This blog style site is a development and extension of the earlier web-based sites hosted by Bill Kerr, and has been available for a year. Today is actually the first anniversary of the site going public.

If you have not visited before then it may be worth a browse.............

Enjoy if you visit,

I agree that the new version of Yahoo! (called Neo) is not an enhancement for most PC based users who can use both hands, and in particular that Yahoo! offers no choice in the matter.

However, there are a number of "get-arounds" to the various issues, and it would appear that the functionality of Neo is improving with time.

Some of the "get arounds" have been published as links on the new MaineOn2 FAQ site at https://maineon2faq.wordpress.com/2013/08/26/yahoo-groups-and-neo/
and you might want to try them.

Enjoy the site if you choose to visit,

There's also a full scale train ride available just up the road, for more details check out this reference;-

BUT I find  that  when I actualy start  using  them to run trains  I get pretty bored  with  them!

For those intrepid members who migth like to learn a bit more about operating a fairly small scale model railway in a more prototypical fashion (and learning about the prototype along the way), I can recommend visiting

The Wiscasset Museum car shown in the picture is a reproduction of the original style of cars used in cream and dairy service. The original cars were insulated, but fitted with stoves to keep the milk, cream and operator from freezing in the Maine winters. There were also a batch of boxcars fitted with stoves for potato service for similar reasons.

The reproduction car has been built for display purposes and therefore is fitted out differently to suit this purpose.

On30 / Re: Forney Circuit Board Wiring

in the absence of a wiring diagram, then surely a decent picture of the original factory installation or better still access to one (borrow a loco?) would work?

this old thread has useful information regarding rail heights (codes) that may be relevant to the discussion on "what track?"

The state of Maine had a bunch of two foot roads running Forney's as a 4-4-0 back in the earlier 1900's.

This information is not correct.

The 2 small Two Foot Forney's that ran as cab forward's were used on the B&B line in Mass for just 9 months some time in the late 1870's or so.

None of the Two Foot "Forney" type loco's that operated in Maine ran as cab forwards.

For those interested in more info try Brian Carter's website;-

Jim,

it might be simpler to track down a picture like the 8th one down on this site
http://www.bridgtonhistory.org/BSRRR/tabid/72/Default.aspx which shows a standard gauge train alongside a narrow gauge one,

Maybe the gremlins got in his keyboard. Try:

"There is no way that lake ice stored in sawdust would be safe to drink."

Whatever he typed or meant to type, the truth is that New England Lake Ice was shipped as far as India, to be used to cool drinks.............and it was shipped in sawdust.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederic_Tudor for some more details,

using "alder gulch" in this boards search facility will bring up many of the other posts on the prototype of this loco
