N / Re: multiple e-z command on one layout

Page 40 of the May-Jun 3/13 N Gauge Journal describes my technique for engines to share DCC addresses because each running session is either all British or all American prototype and my layout, Much Binding, has many storage locations that are automatically isolated by Peco Code 55 turnouts.

The electronics genius who discovers how to add 10 to the DCC address output from an
E-Z Command Companion controller will be appreciated by many model railroaders.

Dear Mr Bach-Man,
Could you please consider an NEM version and t shank couplers.  Both options could be a big help to anyone considering upgrading to magnetic couplers.

Keith

With the new magnetic N scale couplers now available on some engines and rolling stock, could someone please comment on their experience?

This sounds like a need for a Kadee B-13 (renumbered UEM-4 about 40 years ago)  2 ½" x ½" x ¼" between the rails HO Electric Uncoupler.  I use these wrapped in Scotch Tape in place of the sleepers directly below the rails in N Gauge when cutting through the track support is not an option.

Kadee no longer stocks the UEM-4.  Finding a dealer of previously owned equipment who can supply them or Google or Ebay are all long shots.  Given MicroTrains has no N Scale electric uncoupler support but Kadee does, item # 708, your best try could be emailing Sam the Answer Man at Helpful Hints at www.kadee.com describing the problem as an HOn3 requirement.

I've had mixed results with permanent magnets.  Are there any bad effects on an engine motor if parked over one?  Page 63 of the 3/10 N Gauge Journal describes my experience with the Kadee 708 Hon3 & N Scale Electric Uncoupler.  There have been very good results so far particularly with DCC engines.  I'm hoping for similar with the new Bachmann Farish couplers.

Dear Mr. Bach-mann,
Was the HO Scale E-Z Mate Mark II coupler range built up over time to the present range of 10 styles, namely short, medium and long of center shank, over shank, and under shank, and NEM?

Would you expect the N Scale version to follow a similar path?

Dear Ink,
I meant to say NMRA coupler pocket and was referring to the pockets on the 'new locos and rolling stock' in Reply #7 from Mr. Bach-man.
Cheers,

Dear Ink,
For a start we need to get our hands on just one pair of operating couplers that will fit an NMRA box.  Could you please time your concerns so as to not frighten the horses.

Keith

Dear. Mr. Bach-Man, Given the 1st post in the 'New N scale coupler pics' topic, March 14, 2010, and the reply #7, March 19, 2010, said 'later this year', given your reply #2, June 27, 2010, to the 'N scale couplers' topic said 'Look for them soon at your dealer' and given you have the couplers, could you please tell us why are we waiting?  We need the new couplers to have fun.  All the best, Keith
