General Discussion / DCC Sound Problem
January 29, 2013, 06:42:58 PM
We are having trouble with one of our DCC Sound engines from Bachmann.  The sound just quit on us.   It is out of warranty (by 6 weeks).  Does anyone know if there is a way we can repair it at home?  Or is there a card or a chip that might need replacing?
Thanks, as always, for your help.

General Discussion / Bachmann EZ Track Switch Controls
November 11, 2012, 03:05:56 PM
Okay - you guys were SOOO helpful in getting our reverse loop set up with Bachmann equipment.  Now we are looking for some help in "controlling" our turn switch controls.  We have quite a few now (like 16).  The ones that come with the Bachmann EZ Track are pretty chintzy.  I have heard that Radio Shack makes a good switch - but I have no idea which one it is, or what that would entail.
Also, ours are just nailed on to a shelf.  Does anyone have a good suggestion as to how to make a control panel for the switches?

Thanks in advance for your help.

HO / Re: Figure 8 & Auto Reverse
September 28, 2012, 07:24:28 PM
Jerry - I used Jeffrey's drawing.
But you were the one who advised me where to hook up the reversing module, and that I should only need one.  And you were right!  We were so pleased when we hooked it all up, and first there were no shorts, and then we could actually run a train.  It's been a long process.
Thanks again for your help.

Jeffrey & Jerry -
It worked!!!  Thanks to both of you for your help.
We did the figure 8, and only had to use one auto reverser and the 4 pieces of gap track, and it worked!!!
We were not able to use a 90 degree crossing however, we used a 60 degree and it was fine.  Did have to add in a couple of short pieces to make it.  We elongated the reverse loop with a piece of straight track on each side since we had room for it, but otherwise we followed your instructions.
It was really awesome of you guys to go to all the effort that you did to help us.  We could not have done it without you.
Thank you so much!!!

Wow you guys!  The diagrams are fantastic!!  Thank you so much for taking the time.

I have one question at this point for Jeffrey.  You said we would only need one auto reverse with this layout.  Which gap track spot would you recommend we hook it into, or does it matter?  I see where the four gap tracks would go - just don't know which one would need to be hooked up to the auto reverse.

Oh - I lied.  I do have another question.  Are these 18" radius curves, and is that a 90 degree crossing in your plan?

Thanks again - I can't believe how helpful you have all been.

Jonathan & Jerry -
Thank you so much for your responses.  I should have clarified that we do have DCC and saved you some trouble.
Jonathan - in order to work on model trains, I think you have to be some sort of an electrician.  I tell my husband it is not a train hobby, it is an electrical hobby!
Jerry - I would love to see a diagram of your layout.  We have considered that as well, but still not sure where to put the gap track - and therefore the auto reversers.  (Of course, if I could figure out how to post a diagram, I'd show you what we were thinking along those lines.)
Thanks again, both of you.

No - it's just one oval.  So it's a figure 8 on its side with straight track connecting the loops on the top and bottom.  It connects to another oval at one end that is part of our existing layout.
Thank you for your interest.

HO / Figure 8 & Auto Reverse
September 21, 2012, 07:45:17 PM
We are trying to add another oval to our layout, with a figure 8 inside to be able to have the trains reverse directions - no matter which way they come from.  That new oval would have switches coming in and out from an existing oval.

Please know that we have all Bachmann EZ Track - including 2 Auto Reversers and 4 pieces of their Gap Track.

Can anyone tell us how to set this up?  Where would the gap tracks need to go and where would the auto reversers need to be hooked up? (And is that all we would need in order to do this?)

This would be on an 8 by 4 board - so would also appreciate know what radius track we would need and what degree of crossing we would need.

Thank you - we really appreciate any help you are willing to give us.

HO / Village Locomotive
December 02, 2009, 01:49:36 PM
We have just purchased the Old Tyme Village Freight, to replace our Heritage Village train.  Unfortunately, it looks like we have the same problem as we always had with the Heritage Village.  I do not know the model number (perhaps if someone could tell me I could find references in the forum).  Right now, when we touch power to the axles of the coal car, the wheels on the locomotive run, but when we put it on the track, it does not.  It does not pick up electricity from the track.  Not even the light comes on.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?  This is the model with the copper wires, and there seems to be some other references to this design, but no real suggestion on how to get it running, or fix it permanently.  Any thoughts?  Thanks - not an expert.
