HO / Re: Excursion Cars....
September 07, 2008, 01:28:26 AM
Same here with wanting Cass cars (I work there), but this is what Cass should have designed for their cars. Talking with the trainmaster there, it seams that the new "reserved" car for the Whitaker trains WILL feature a clearstory roof!

An American Log Loader would be an excellent model for BMan to produce. There are a few models of Barnhart loaders made, but nothing for an American.  Barnharts were more common in the boom years, however the wooden structure didn't last, and the American loaders withstood the times.

Since Bachmann has a soft spot for Pocahontas County in it's models, and since there are 2 of them there (D&GV has one from Moore-Kempel Lumber, and Cass's is from Elk River Coal & Lumber) it would be really cool.

Maybe when making it, they could design a Meadow River Lumber log car, since both are more modern than previous offerings... Come on Lee! I didn't see you in Cass this year! LOL

HO / Re: MTH to get BLI and Lionel tooling
August 14, 2008, 08:28:04 PM
I've been noticing something here...

You guys are all mad at MTH for them pushing their DCS system on you, as you can not access all of the cool features with just DCC.

What happens with all of us DC guys who want a new model that is DCC/Sound only?? It's happened, and we are eventually messed into getting it, and paying more money for something that we don't care about (Sound and DCC)

You guys are going to have to live with it, and just use DCC and forget the DCS part. It happens to us, and we don't complain.

I am really sick and tired of the BLI/PCM BS that they have. Models announced 4 years ago still "need their tooling finished"

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

Maybe it's possible that the 2 truck Climax was stopped because Bachmann has a 3 trucker in the works.

That's exactly what the cars reminded me of when I saw them...look like MARC commuter cars.

The excursion cars are prototypical.

The cars were more than likely a design made by passenger car maker Jackson & Sharp, and used on a few early lines who hauled tourists.

The obvious choice for making this design versus anything else (cough, cough, Cass Scenic Railroad, cough) is that these cars have a more old time feel to them, they could be kitbashed into other open air cars like trolleys, and that they are the exact cars that Walt Disney built for their train down in Florida.

General Discussion / Re: ebay

For the most part, when the seller doesn't know anything about the items, you can get a very good deal on something that costs considerably more than what you got it for. On the other hand, when an amateur is selling it, he might say that the engine runs fine, when it is really a junker that has past seen it's day to the dumpster.

I picked up 4 Walthers GN Empire Builder cars on eBay, from a seller named Bargainland. This joint has been known as the biggest scammer on eBay, but I decided to buy the cars anyways.

Bargainland said that the cars had damaged packaging, but the "insides" seamed Ok. Knowing myself that when the outside of a Walthers box is damaged, the car is probably damaged, I paid $45 for the 4 cars.

Included were...

Great Dome
Vista Dome
and two Observation cars

The couplers were all broken, the rear end of an observation car was sheared off, and some steps and grabs were broken, or missing. But, that is the kind of model work I like to do. So, instead of paying about $170 for the whole set, I got 4 cars (that I had to do a little work on) for $45.

More specifically, the 4-6-0 low boiler is prototypical to the Maryland & Pennsylvania's #27. The high-boilered models are the same basis, with larger drivers and a larger tender.

HO / Re: Locomotives & rolling stock for 15" radius

I believe anything that Bachmann makes (70t, 44t, streetcar,) has been mentioned except the Spectrum 0-6-0T and the 4-4-0

Other than that...

MDC EMD Model 40
FDT Trackmobile (Yes, I have seen a trackmobile pull a regular train)
Proto or Athearn SW600, 7, 9, 1200, or 1500

My 2 cents

HO / Re: coaling tower
September 27, 2007, 10:34:33 PM
I don't see what is wrong with the article, as they are just showing you what can be done with a square coaling tower kit, and make it a round one.

Us Wisconsinites don't see all too many square ones that often, as two out of the three coaling towers within 60 miles of my house are round ones (the other is a direct-coaler). Thus, modelers would want to see more round coaling towers, and less of the square ones (The Walthers round bunker is an exact prototype of the Ashland, WI coaling tower, so it appears on most of our layouts)

I agree that the Tichy Kits are nice, and that it would be a shame to scrap a good kit for nothing, but some modelers would be willing to do that.

General Discussion / Re: Name That Locomotive Game

Solved.

It is my favorite engine there. I always wanted to see it steam, but the engine was too big for the light rail of MCRWY. It sure is a neat looking engine though. I have heard that the engine is in good enough condition for operation too. Oh well, ...

Give me the number, roadname, and location for this beast. Getting a little harder, eh?
