HO / GP40 PCB differences
February 02, 2020, 11:58:35 PM
There are three PCB's for the HO GP40.  What are the reasons for this?

PCB (HO GP40)
board #H601x-PCB01
Model: 6031-PCB01 REV-B

PCB (Old Model) (HO GP40)
Model: 63521-PCB01 REV-A

PCB03 (HO GP30/GP35/GP38-2/GP40/GP50/ Universal)
Model: H601X-PCB03

Thanks, Pat

P.S.  I tried to upload pictures but it said the upload area was full.

HO / GP40 Motors with and without resistors

What is the reason for the GP40 motors that have resisters and those that do not.

Motor w/Resistors (HO GP40)

HO / Re: Bachmann Locamotives all run at different speeds
February 16, 2015, 11:00:06 PM
A use posted that

"...If they are DCC and used, the prior owners may have programmed different performance variables (CVs) into them. If that is the situation, and I must admit that I suspect that is the case, start by returning all of the locos to their default CV values. Then you can make minor adjustments to obtain consistent performance characteristics."

Do I still need to be concerned about CV value if I'm only running them on DC?  If so how do I reset the CV to factory default?

Biggest difference I see is between DC vs DCC.  The last locomotive I bought was new DCC, I only have DC track, and it ran a lot slower even after break-in.  I replaced the circuit board with a non-DCC one and it works fine now.

Good idea about breaking in two locomotives coupled together to help them run at the same speed.

HO / Re: Playing Train Sounds - Loud Speakers
October 31, 2013, 04:45:52 PM
I would like the sound to come from different areas of the track: depot, construction, power generator, etc.  These sounds would be activated by a push buttion switch on my console so they would not all be on at the same time.  They have to be loud enough to be heard over the train and I would like the sound to come from that area of the layout: depot, switching yard, etc.

Will let you know what I come up with.

HO / Playing Train Sounds - Loud Speakers
October 26, 2013, 06:20:51 PM
I want to record and playback various train sounds: whistles, crossings, conductor, etc.  On my control board I want to have different buttons to activate these sounds so if the train is in the station the conductor would talk.  Train at a crossing then you would hear bells.

I thought I found a good solution using a battery sound recorder device then mounting these near the point I want the playback.  Problem was that these devices are not loud enough and get drowned out by train.

Does anyone have advice?  I don't think a CD or USB player would work because I want short clips controlled by buttons and mounted in different places.

Thanks

HO / Bachmann Locamotives all run at different speeds
October 07, 2013, 02:58:01 PM
I've bought three Bachmann HO Locamotives, GP-40.  They all run at different speeds and some a lot different.  Is this normal?  I would think the same manufacture and model would run pretty close to each other.

Thanks, Pat

I need to replace the motor in my GP40 locamotive.  I was on Micro-Mark's site to by a truck tuner when I saw their motore.  Can this go in my GP40?

Also Mico-Mark gives details demensions and Bachmann doesn't for lots of their products.  I wish they did.

Thanks, Pat

HO / Re: 33" Wheels too long for cars
September 29, 2013, 05:59:22 PM
Thanks for all the good advise.  I'm going to buy a HO Truck Tuner from Micro Mark.  I was able to very lightly grind the tips down and they work much better than the plastic ones.

Thanks, Pat

HO / 33" Wheels too long for cars
September 27, 2013, 10:33:01 PM
I want to replace the plastic wheels on some of my cars with metal ones.  I bought 33" wheels from Bachmann and the are too long even for Bachmann's cars.  The axles are longer and more pointed.  What do these fit?  Can I modify them to fit my cars?

Thanks, Pat

I need to order more couplers.  I want the standard ones that come on 40 ' stock with the springs.

What part # do I order?

HO / HO Bachmann GP40 BNSF Dummy Engine
April 04, 2013, 02:44:39 PM
I"m looking for a dummy engine to match the GP40 BNSF one I have but can't seem to find one.  I've searched the internet and can find other dummy engines but not this one.  Any ideas?  Could I get the BNSF shell and mount it on a matching length rolling stock car?

My wife got me a Bachmann starter set for Christmas and I'm hooked.  Great hobby.
