Sorry I didn't get back to you guy's earlier.  I have been shopping LOL.   Great info and ideas from everyone, most all will be used one way or another.
I wish to thank you all for helping me out here.
I will try and post some before/after pics of my project.  Again, Thank You.

wow, thanks for the replies all.
Joe, YES that's exactly what I'm trying to do only on a straight run not so much curved.  Can you tell me if Lionel still makes that set-up (or do I have to go back to 1960  lol).  Thanks.
Ram, I looked online at the micro line.  It looks like that will work as well but I'll have to see if it's available locally to make sure.  Thanks.
Gene, thanks also.  I was thinking of using the kits but only as a last resort.

Sorry all, I don't think I was very clear or acurate in my discription.  I do have the grauated pier set but I'm not looking to do that style of an "over/under" theme.  I am looking to have both tracks running one on top of the other in the same direction instead of side by side.  Sort of like one set of track running thru a tunnel while the other set of track runs on top of the tunnel in same location...only without the tunnel and using piers instead.  Also I'm using code 83 track (atlas) for this while I have the e-z track on another set up on same table.
Again sorry for any confusion I caused.  I hope this is a clearer description and thanks for the replies.

HO / track layout
February 15, 2009, 09:01:15 AM
Hi all,  I am working on a new layout and I want to have the tracks run over top of each other in certain areas but am unable to find any type of piers which allow a train to travel on top as well as thru the bottom/center, sort of like how the cities have trains running over top of streets.  If this is something I have to make instead of buying, can anyone point me in the right direction.
Thank's in advance for any help.   :)

I recently purchased the "overland" set with the 4-8-4 steam engine.  I was also having the same problem.  I spoke with someone from Bachman and was advised that this engine should be used with the 22" curves as it is a larger/longer engine.
Good luck.  Keep us posted.   :)

Hi guys,
Thanks so much for your help.  I placed the piers at each track connection and I only used up to about the 2inch high pier over a section of 5 track pieces.

As for the couplers they are all plastic but look like your 2nd choice with a curved piece going down and forward.

One other note here,  I just found out that even though I just purchased this set, it is an older model/stock set.  Bachmann has since switched out to a different power pac and also now uses 22" radius' instead of 18".  So I'm thinking of starting off with the 22" curves before I look into a new/stronger power unit.

Again thanks Yampa Bob, SteamGene & Kevin for all your help.

Hi,
Thanks for the help guys.
I did run the train for the break in period, even a little longer both ways.  I also cleaned the tracks several times and oiled the loco a lil bit - the rear wheels were squeeking.  I just purchased it new in Dec. 08.  Not sure what kind of couplers they are.  I know they are easy to hook and unhook.  I don't notice any heat build up.  I did manage to get the train up the piers (ez track pier set) although it is not set up to the full height nor can I run it with all the cars (9) attached, only 3-4.
I guess I will continue tinkering till I get it right lol.  I'm new so it will take some time.  Again thanks guys for your help.

General Discussion / overland set
January 01, 2009, 03:51:34 PM
Hi all and Happy New Year.
I just purchased the overland set and I'm having some problems as follows;
a.  the train doesn't move until the controller is turned up to aprox. 30-40, with or without the cars attached.
b.  I tried to install a bridge set up but the train wouldn't make it up the hill.  I didn't even use the highest piers onlt the first 3 pieces for the rise and low sides.
c.  I added some of Bachmann smoke fluid but no smoke comes out.  I did see some of the fluid leak onto the track when parked.  Not sure if I overfilled it or it has a leak as there is no smoke.

One note here, I have another HO engine that I used and it had no problem going up and over the bridge.
I would greatly appreciate any help with these problems.  I like the set and want to build a large layout using itas long as I can get it to work properly.
Thanks.
