To connect the sound decoder you need to find the wheel pick up wires from each side of loco and soldier each in the 2 wires on the sound decoder. The instructions that comes with sound decoder is clear. But I don't think you will have enough room for the speaker. I put one of these MRC sound decoders in P2K E/7 I put the decoder in the engine but had to put the speaker in the next car (Baggage Car). There was no room for the speaker in the loco. You can try a smaller N gage speaker but you won't have good sound.

Yes my layout is DCC. My controler is a MRC Prodigy Advanced 2 Squared, 3.5 amp. This loco has a mind of its own when it's setting idle on a side track. It just takes off when it wants to. This loco is the only one out of 15 loco's that I have does this. My 4 other Bachmann's are ok on this layout.

HO / Bachmann DCC Loco Problem.
March 14, 2008, 10:38:35 AM
I have a Spectrum desiel loco that is DCC on board. When it is parked on a side track for no reason it will take off on its own. You never know when. It only happens when other loco's are running. I had to isolate the side track with a insulated rail jointer and a seperate switch to keep this loco in its place. I tried to re-program but it still takes off on its own. It responds to its address and runs fine when called upon. Is the decoder bad. It only has about 30 min. run time.

General Discussion / Re: Decoder question

I got the sound MRC decoder from Jim's Model Trains on Ebay. He is a power seller on Ebay. Go on Ebay do a search HO DCC Decoders. Or go to his site on Ebay. He carrys all types of decoders and the prices are good. I also got another sound from him to put in P2K E/7 desiel. Far as the brilliance goes I don't know if it is a upgraded model from MRC. But all I can tell you I'm very satisfied with the sound quality. I use a MRC Prodigy Express Squared 2 controler. It is the latest model from MRC and it is 3.5 Amp. It is  very user friendly and you can program on the main track or a program track. I generally run 5 trains at one time on my 12'X14' layout.

I just put in a MRC Brilliance sound decoder in my DCC ready Hvy. Mountain 4-8-2. Plug in the 8 pin decoder. I put the speaker under the coal load. Drill 4 small holes in the coal load for the sound to come out. Install speaker face up under coal load. Also drill a hole under the coal for the plug of speaker to fit thru. It cost me $63 for a MRC decoder and you won't be sorry, the sound is great.

I have MRC's new version Prodigy Advance Squared 2. It is 3.5 Amp and very user friendly. I at first was afraid of DCC but with this MRC it makes it easy. You can program on the main track or a seperate program track. I run up to 4 seperate trains at once, I'm sure it will handle more but that is all I can watch and control at one time safely. You can add extra Cabs (Seprate controls) so another person can operate other trains on the same layout with you.

General Discussion / Re: Parts for HO Engines.
June 21, 2007, 11:03:26 PM
Well to my surprise I got a call from a Walthers parts Rep. which now owns Life-Like today. He told me to send in the engine and $10 for return shipping to repair the unit for free. I told him in an earlier discussion that there was no way I was buying a new motor and drive unit to repair this unit. I guess they want to keep customers happy, which is a good way to run a business.

General Discussion / Parts for HO Engines.
June 20, 2007, 12:28:28 PM
Can anyone tell me if there is  a place where you can buy parts for engines other than the manufacturer? Motors and drive shafts etc. I broke a drive shaft on a Proto 2000 E7 and Life-Like tells me I have to buy a whole new motor and worm drive assymble to fix this. The drive shaft snaped at the flywheel end where the coupler is pressed into the fly wheel. A plastic part. I removed the plastic part from the inside of flywheel end. I can't see why they don't sell this part.

I made a mistake on this post. I just dug out the box it came in and it is marked on the end flap that it is a GP30. My old eyes must of been playing tricks on me. I bought it back in Jan. Thanks for all your help and enjoyed the info.
