Thanks to all for expressing your knowledge and experiences. I would think that because of the amount of slack that existed within the couplers , which should be compounded/reduced by the number of cars , would create a problem if the lead loco was not  somewhat perfectly synchronized with the mid/end locos.

This leads me to another question that comes to mind. Has there ever been an accident/derailment caused as a result of consist separated by cars?

Real Life - I can understand how consist work with cable on locos that are directly attached to one another but how are engines synchronized to perform with lead engine separated by cars - some even in rear of long loads?

Thanks for all responses and suggestions. After looking into this concept I think the SurroundTraxx system is quite the best application for  the under-the-table approach and best for me. Only problem is that it cost $over 400.00 to acquire. For many this may not be a problem at all but for some others it is a major monetary addition to a layout. I only wish there were more competition, where in most cases, have the benefit of reduced prices for the consumer.

The only thing that is "cheap" is your response. How can you be so insensitive to make such a comment as this? Sarcasm is not required.  The cost is always an item for many.

I have a DCC system and about 13 diesels equipped without sound. I would like to know if there is anything like under-the-layout sound equipment that could imitate the sounds of the locomotive and be sync'd with the control of each of the locomotives similar to action/sound of having a sound decoder/spkr in the engine itself.

Thanks. I wanted to know if there were any that had experienced with the replacing the bulb for the HO Proto 2000 E8/9 locomotive and what they actually used.

HO using DCC (Digitrax DH163, DH140) and Life-Like Proto 2000 E9. Loco not dcc ready and hardwire decoder install. What are some suggestions of bulbs I could use. Could not find reccommendation on web site.

Tried simple green however did not do any good removing old lube. Is there something else much better that won't dissolve plastics?

I have several Bachmann F7A's & B's that are rather old. All the trucks have old lubricant in them (some have turned green). Can the trucks be broken down to remove the individual gears or is there some product I can use without damaging the plastic? I've tried dis washing liquid and that was not very successful.

Looked but cannot find replacement bulbs for TYCO's Floodlight Tower, either #106 or #107. If anyone have replaced these lamps, what bulbs were used and where can I obtain some? I could not even find any info on the TYCO forum.

Is this link the only track maintenance vehicle available at Bachmann? I cannot locate any other reference to any other track cleaning vehicles by Bachmann (on the Bachmann site) other than those listed on eBay and other places.

Thanks for all the responses. I am using HO (nickle 100 thingy), DCC,  on 4X8 with a 5X8 plywood attached to a side end. I have plenty of track (more than I should have) with about 35 turnouts. I built this about 1995 and used about 1 year, disconnected the boards and move from Texas to Florida and did not use until I moved back to Texas and decided to get involved again a year ago. Needless to say, the tracks were dirty (I imagined oxidized) quite a bit. I have heard many recommended ways  to clean tracks and decided to use an eraser (non-abrasive type) and lacquer and paint thinner. The setup is in my garage and expose to dust.  After a sever cleaning of the tracks and all rolling stock, I want something to use like a track cleaning car to use perhaps once a week to keep things reasonably clean.
