Thanks for the great suggestions.  I have another unit that I purchased as well (c-19).  When they arrive I will open up the tender and take a look at the installed pcb and post a picture. I am afraid that I may misspeak when it comes to specifically what is included on the platform.  I called in to Soundtraxx and the fellow spoke to me for at least 10 minutes.  Fantastic company.

How did you install the SoundTraxx Eco400 DCC/Sound card?  My loco has the 21 pin connector.  Did you use it or did you install in another way.  Is there a schematic that tells you what wires to connect to what parts of the OEM board?

Loco Bill you indicated that I could probably use my old sound card Phoenix in the new locomotive.  The new locomotive has a 21 pin connector.  I guess I would not be able to use that connector.  Are you saying that I could hook it up in another way?  The old system was installed back in around 2006.

I just purchased the g scale Grizzly Flats Emma Nevada 2-6-0 & TENDER 81489.  I understand that it has a decoder built in with a 21 pin connector.  I would like to add sound.  What do you recommend?  This unit will be in my office on a trestle.  I have a transformer from another Bachmann train.  I am hoping that I can use it.  So this is for display at this time.  I have a older 2=6=0 spectrum Denver unit that is not working.  I understand that I can send it in and have it serviced?  It has a Phoenix sound card but I don't think that will work in this new loco.  While I retired I do not have much experience with trains, so I am looking forward to your assistance.

I have the 3 truck shay with factory sound.  I noticed that it smokes when it is sitting still.  I am running it on the dcc (AC Power).  When the train starts to move the smoke production slows down.  Is this normal?

I should have mentioned that the dcc wireless control system is the Bachmann 36505 Wireless E-Z Command Dynamis DCC Controller.  It is able to run the three truck shay around a small circular track with a 4 foot diameter.  Do you have a preference for a 3 amp decoder from Zimo/lenz/masoth/qsi/esu?  It sounds like it should be relatively easy to hook up.  I purchased the spectrum 260 mogul with the phoenix system installed.  But I think I can identify the correct wires.  There is sound board that is in the tender.  Then there is the bachmann board that is in the front of the loco near the smoker.  So will I completely disconnet the bachmann board and remove it, replacing it with the decoder?  Or do I leave it intact but remove the engine wires and put the decoder in and then connect the engine to the decoder?  On one of the pages from the Phoenix book, it appeared that I pulled the engine wires from the sound card and inserted the decoder.  Then I reconnect the engine wires to the decoder.  In this respect I would not even touch the circuit board in the front of the loco.  I kind of need some help here.

I finally got my Spectrum 2 6 0 mogul running correctly.  It has a Phoenix 2k2 sound card located in the rear tender.  My question is that what is necessary to convert this unit to a DCC unit?  What Decoder would you recommend I purchase.  I would like to be able to run this system with my new wireless controller.  The sound system works very well on standard analog.

I just received the EZ Command BAC36505 wireless system.  I have the 3 truck Shay setup on a circular track that has a 4 foot diameter.  The unit works the train without any problems.  I am not pulling any cars so not sure how much power it has but it works with the one loco and will do fine when it is on a trestle.

I want to have the system setup on a trestle.  I will have rollers for all the drive wheels and the overall length should only be about 36 to 40 inches long.  I would like to run the smoker.  So what would you recommend as a booster?  I read somewhere where you have to be careful not to go over 21 volts as it will shut down the decoder?

I just purchased a 3 truck shay with sound and wanted to purchase a controller to operate as a DCC unit.  I would prefer a wireless solution.  At present I am just setting up a stationary trestle with the engine.  So it would be nice to have it go through its paces with a wireless unit.  Will the EZ command BAC36505 work with my train?  Will  I be able to perform programing with this unit?  Will I need to purchase anything else?

I just purchased a 3 truck shay #82697 with Bachmann Sound.  I want to set it up on a trestle and run it in place.  Will the bachmann rollers work for this train?  I guess I would need 6 of them for all the drive wheels?  On to DCC equipment.  I have another Bachmann 260 on a trestle that is all setup with a phoenix sound system.  I would like to be able to work both units with a wireless system.  Is the Bachmann E-Z Command Dynamis Wireless Infrared DCC System - 36505 a good controller?  What else would I need to purchase?  If I wire both trestles together as if they were one system I should be able to control them both correct?  Will this system be good enough for a future train layout with two or three g scale trains?  Can I control the smoker in the shay with this control?

I have searched and found one web site that had the information I needed but could not access the info.  The info for the 260 was not open to me.  I sent an email to the owner of the site and hope he will grant me permission.  He did allow me to access the 280 wiring diagram.  This looked so much like mine that I thought I would try it out.  It gave me some info that all the others lacked the color of wire associated with the connector.  So L8 is Pink, L7 is Orange, L6 is Purple, L5 is White, L4 is Green, L3 is Black, L2 is Grey, and L1 is yellow.  Those correspond to my wires coming out of the four blocks of connectors.  I guess the blocks are from the front 3, 2, 3, 3.  I had nothing in the first block #11,10,and 9  the other colors appeared in the order stated.  I was then able to follow the lines to the switches in the front of the train.  I then noticed that two additional wires were from the board next to the connectors.  I followed them a red and black wire and saw that they were on the right switch connectors.  The I noticed that two wires from the motor which I cannot see but come through the unit towards the front.  I had wired one of them to the smoke switch.  So I took that off and soldered it to the direction switch.  Now everything works ok.  I still don't get a lot of smoke but it goes forward and backward.  What a pain in the butt.  The pcb is not easy to push back in.  It probably needs to be someplace else where access is easier.  So thanks for all your suggestions and I am sorry I did not properly name my unit in the beginning.  There was probably a way I could have easily removed the boiler but could not see how it was screwed on.  That would have made getting to the wires much easier.  I could have wrapped them as well.

Yes, mine has this board, as you discribe.  Can you tell me anything about how it is wired.  I had assumed that my unit was the spectrum 4 6 0 but perhaps it is not.  I will take a look at the box it came in.  It has been awhile.
