Loco's made it to NY this time and work fine .... They even swapped out the old F7 that I sent in for repairs with the newer Spectrum series F7.

Makes this new n scale trainman wonder about what is going on with these turnouts .... Some good reading and points are brought up on page 2 here under the title.."are turnouts power routing or not "
I know for fact the older turnouts packaged in blue are power routing and the new ones in yellow are not... Power goes to both sides of the switch .... Would this not be dcc compatable ? The only thing I see that is not recommended with the new style  switch( in yellow package) would be not to power the frog per instructions ....

Well I had some luck today also ....Received a call from Laura stating they mailed out my repaired loco's but that they were returned to Bachmann as the address was wrong . After hearing her voicemail requesting my correct address by email,  I made a call to make sure ... Left a voice message and shortly after received a call from a woman in shipping saying they had the right city but wrong state ... Nebraska ( NE ) instead of New York (NY).... Let's see if they make it to NY this time !

I have had very similar experience with Bachmann on two locomotives I sent in for warranty repairs back in November. I sent a note to customer service on December 11 requesting the status and received a prompt reply from Laura in customer service stating my items were repaired December 5 and were on their way back to me....ok great.
Well it is now 3 weeks later and no word, returned calls nor returned emails or service requests from the numerous ones I sent...hmmm
Being new to this hobby and having spent many $$ for equipment,etc.....kinda leaves me wondering if I should continue purchasing Bachmann products .

Thanks for the tip on this, I will save it to memory . Also Captain Pez, you might want to read the thread below named " are these turnouts power routing " to give you a better understanding of what is going on with turnouts now .

I was able to find these extenders online (eBay) for less than $4.00 each .... Worked great and was a time saver as these wires are so very thin ..

Can the NEW yellow packaged turnout that are always live be converted to power routing? Maybe disconnect the red wire that is also used to power the frog if needed? Any help would be great as all my turnouts are set and secured .

I have been setting up my layout and not being electrically smart but learning as I move along,I. have also found I have two left hand turnouts (part numbers 44861) where the older blue packaged one is definitely power routing and the new one in yellow packaging is not, even though the small instruction sheet inside the package states it is. I recently ordered another hoping to use it to be able to store locos on track with the power routing feature but received the newer version which is live either way the switch is directed. Very confusing indeed and one has to wonder why Bachmann has yet to reply to this issue.

N / Re: remote turnout switch troubles

Tony and James,
Thank you for your help in solving this troublesome switch,it was exactly as Tony described above and just that extra slight pressure by moving the gear to be 90 degrees in relation to the main track is all it took.. Switch seems to work fine now and I also took the advice of James and searched this part and noted others had reworked the switch point where it meets the main rail my smoothing it out with a file. It looked to be a bit rough but it is smooth now....Bachmann quality control should check into this!

Thank you again for you help....I will " pay it forward" when able

I have the switch powered and it is in a position where i can manually operate it but it will not stay in place while backing cars through it as stated above.......are they supposed to stay locked to the position that is chosen?

N / remote turnout switch troubles
November 24, 2012, 05:22:33 PM
I am new to N scale and recently purchased a remote turnout switch #44861 to make a dead end spur track to store extra cars when not in use.....trouble is when i am backing into the spur through the switch, the switching mechanism is pushed towards the center of the track by the car wheels causing cars to derail.....I have snugged up the small screw to no avail...
Going forward through the switch is fine as is running through it on my oval track layout.....do I have the correct item to do this or would another type of switch work better?
