Oops, mispoke a bit...the C & S roster lists nine of these (30 - 39), but most were sold 1899/1900.  Indeed only two survived into the 1920s on the C & S line, the No. 30, and No 37.

My question is how close is the Bachmann model to the C & S B4A 2-8-0 (they had one, No. 30)?  If close enough it could be modeled on the existing Bachmann engine which is, at least, a Baldwin model.  BTW, the engine crews also hated the No. 22 mogul for its bad performance capabilities...

HELP ME!!  A buddy of mine just sent two parts to me for DCC installation.  He removed these from a "Gas Mechanical" and I want to put them in my Climax.  Now, here is the dilemma:  My Climax MAY be "DCC" ready as I see an 8 pin plug on top of the board.  Do I simply plug in Bachmann Part No. 44915?  What is the other board for...It has two brass strips that appear to go to the motor...do I need this board???

There are a couple of things here.  First, your car/light problem.  In order to remove the truck from the car body you must remove the car roof.  There are two screws in the car floor that hold the trucks in place (one on either end of the car).  Once loose SLOWLY raise the car off the trucks to observe what the heck is going on with the wiring.  There are brass plates on top of the truck that the light wires go to.  Should be a simple job to solder them back in place.  Personally, I hate lighted cars because even with constant lighting circuits they tend to "flicker" unrealistically, so I go in and snip the little buggers off!

Now then, your trucks.  These ARE tricky.  You really have to do a balancing act to get the sides on and the screws adjusted correctly.  This will take time but if you are patient it should be no problem.  MAKE SURE that the insulated wheels are placed correctly or you will cause a short.  You can see the insulated sides by looking at the back of the wheelsets where the wheel joins the axle.  Insulated wheels orient toward one side of the truck only and as mentioned above, each truck must be oriented opposite of the other.

Your damaged tender can be fixed either with parts from another manufacturer OR as mentioned above, you can replace it through Bachmann.

DCC in the mogul is dear to my heart.  I have not yet tackled the project but it is coming up.  The best guideline was Harold Minky's Pacificcoastairliner site, but that is gone.  I did manange to print a lot of this off and if you want I can send you copies of what I have.  Scout around on the net though too.  There are folks here who have done it as well as on some of the other model railroad sites (Google On30 and you will get a bunch of sites).

Well, here is my wish list:

1 Boxcars that open prototypically from left to right instead of right to left

2 Four-Wheeled Bobber Caboose so I don't have to bash these anymore

3 Duckbill-roof, backdated passenger cars...so I don't have to bash THESE anymore

4 and YES a Rotary Snow Plow that is affordable...

Well said John.  I agree completely...I too have waited about 25 years for On30 to come along and now it is here and I am even more excited about it than I anticipated!  As for asking the Bach-Man, I know he can't say, but it is afterall the name of this forum 

So how about it Mr. Bach Man?  Any plans for future releases of the 2-6-0 with DCC and/or DCC with sound??

I am happy to see that Bachmann continues to forge ahead with great new products and I am sure the new 4-6-0 will be a great hit.  Once again I find myself asking: "What about the older engines?  When will Bachmann go back and add DCC if not DCC and Sound to the 2-6-0s?"  and while we are at it a few DCC loaded Porters would be great...save alot of time and frustration out here in model railroad land...

Thanks Dusten, I figured it was something like that.  The track currently is Bachmann E-Z Track since we are working a "temporary" layout for the time being.

Hi all,

My first attempt to post this appears to have failed, so here I go again.  I have been running the heck out of my 4-4-0 and it is great except for a particular problem.  When reversing over the frogs of a turnout the pilot truck always derails, no matter what speed the engine is at.  It does not do this moving forward, nor does this occur with my other engines.  I suspect the piloit truck is floating light on the rail.  What can be done to fix this problem?
