Now that I've tracked down all the correct wires coming from the engine and tender pick-ups, lights, and such, do I even need the circuit board?  The tsunami decoder I want to install does not have the 8 pin plug, so why not remove the board completely?

Tell me where my logic breaks down and it usually does...

Well, I'm finally getting around to painting and lettering my collection of Spectrum steam engines and it's time to give them their own addresses.  However, I'm running into that problem of them not wanting to change from 3.  I'm running on an NCE PowerCab system and I've tried programming on the main and in programming track mode and I get nothing.  I've searched the threads here and seen a couple suggestions at changing cv's 17 & 18, but which one is correct?  Is that really my problem? I have a 2-8-0 and SY Mikado and neither one will accept the numbers I need them to.  I have a 4-6-0 that accepted address 2 right away.  The other two need to be double digit numbers.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the info.  Actually, the HO Chinese Mikados (at least the version I have) have a permanently attached tender.  There is no pin, as is usual, but a drawbar with 4 pins (2 on each end) that ride in grooves in the tender and under the cab of the engine.

I've got one that I would like to backdate a bit and Americanize.  I am by no means a prototype modeler so it just has to look plausable.  Has anyone here switched out the tender for one of Bachmann's other tenders?  If so, what did you do with the funky semi-permanent drawbar?

I did a search but did not come up with any definites.  Thanks.
