So it just plugs in and if the lights don't work then you have it in backwards. Thanks for letting me know.

So after ordering a new decoder for a DCC ready 2-8-0 and getting ready to put it in, which end is which?
5 4
6 3
7 2
8 1
Using the above-mentioned numbering for the DCC decoder wires, are the numbers 8 and 1 pointing towards the front of the tender PCB connection to the engine or are they pointing towards the coupler on the back of the tender? If someone would answer I'd be very appreciative since I'm relatively new to installing a decoder in a steam engine.
