With some extensive prying, I was finally able to remove the lens, I removed the bulb and placed it back in and it works. Apparently the two bulb contacts were touching each other.

Well I've tried prying it off, with no luck.

Look carefully at the truck where it swivels under the frame. That could be another spot for a short. If this car has a horn hook coupler, I doubt the truck would swivel very much.
I am looking at the photo of this car and it looks like the truck under the light is the only one with metal wheels. Try to trace the electrical path. I doubt the bulb is shorted. Bulbs burn out. Not short.

I first thought that the issue would be the swivel mount of the housing holder, but if I remove the housing piece itself, the issue goes away.  I have the never version, with two sets of wheels.

I have a floodlight car (16238).  Just tonight it caused a short-circuit on my track. I narrowed the problem to the light bulb housing.  I'm now trying to remove the lens from the housing.  Does anybody know if the lens is glued on or is simply held in by friction?

Thanks Jim. I only place on locomotive at a time on the track when I was testing it with no cars or anything else on the track, and the track is a simple oval. I'm going to get an exchange on the controller if the problem persists. The problem occurs occasionally.

I clean my track every other day and I keep the locomotive's wheels clean. I have tested multiple locomotives on the track and have the same problem occur. I'm sure that all the connections to the track are fine as everything runs well with my normal dc controller connected but I might use my multimeter to double-check.

Thanks for letting me know that this is just typical of the E-Z command controller.  I don't have a track cleaning car but I do clean my track regularly.

I was running a locomotive using the E-Z command controller I got for Christmas. Since yesterday one of my locomotives started to stop for a split second occasionally and start back up again. When it stops it does not stop at any particular place at the track. I checked the usual things such as the connection to my track, the wheels on the locomotive, and made sure that the track was clean.  I tried another locomotive and the same thing is happening.  I'm thinking that the source of the problem could be my E-Z command controller. I did unplug it and plugged it back in and the problem still exists.  Both locomotives that were used where the Bachmann standard line DCC on board locomotives.

The setup does really well with steam locomotives. The max ac voltage got the smoke to work on my steam locomotive (the living room was filled with smoke).

Is it working at all? Are other trains working just fine on the same track?

The first thing to do is to look at the wheels and see if they are dirty.

Photos would be most appreciated.

I have set it up and it works great. I love how the lights on my non-dcc locomotive light up at full power.  When I ran one of my non-dcc locomotives I did smell a strange odor although it was not warm or anything.

I own a Spectrum GE 44 ton switcher #80041. It does not have an NMRA plug(sadly). I need a small decoder as there is not much room in the small locomotive.  Any advice is appreciated.
