The Digitrax Sound Bug is a sound only decoder and is designed to piggyback onto a 165 series Digitrax decoder. As there is not a lot of room in the shay, you might want to consider the Soundtraxx Micro Tsunami as a possibility. Here's a link to the specs: http://www.litchfieldstation.com/xcart/product.php?productid=999002769&cat=116&page=1 I would recommend the light steam version. If the above link is broken, you will have to cut-n-paste it

HO / Re: 2-8-0 Slight Surging

From another board on which I am a member, it was suggested to check the frame halves around the area of the belt to see if there was any contact. It was also suggested to clearance the frame a little and add a very small amount of lube to the belt.

HO / Re: Heavy Mountain 4-8-2 Dissassembly

The smokebox front pulls off, that is not the issue. I need to lengthen the leads to the LED and that requires removing the boiler and probably the cab. I am hoping someone has done this before and can describe the steps. I modified a 2-10-0 by installing a 3mm golden white LED into the headlamp and allowing the leads to protrude out the back side of the smokebox front, where I used a two pin connector made from a machined pin header to attach to the LED. In the process I removed the light pipe that was factory installed. It sure is bright, but that can be controlled by a current dropping resistor in series with the LED.

Thanks,

Joe

HO / Heavy Mountain 4-8-2 Dissassembly
February 18, 2008, 04:13:41 PM
Are there any dissassembly instructions available for taking a 4-8-2 heavy apart? I need to remove the boiler to change out the LED and make several other mods.

Thanks,

Joe
