I am using EZ track and have several turnouts. Is there a way to wire indicator lights so that I know which direction the track is switched.

That is a big help. Where do the two DPDT switches go. One on the loop and one on the figure 8?

I have a figure 8 within an oval. No problem with the physical layout. However I know that creates a short and the train will not run without separating the loop from the figure 8. I have seen several articles  on how to fix this using toggle switches and gaps or special tracks. However most of the posts assume some knowledge of how to wire a layout. Can somebody please provide a simple/easy solution. Thanks in advance.

Just getting into the hobby after 60+ years. Setting up a layout with two grandsons. We need to replace several couplers. My question is what size couplers come standard on the entry level Bachmann train sets. On-line I see 20 mm, 17.3 mm, 9/32 replacements. What size do I need? Second, I have some old (40 years) Tyco train diesels and rolling stock. The couplers are different from the Bachmann couplers. Can I convert the Tyco to Bachmann?
