Did the CV 8 reset. Unfortunately, didn't eliminate the problem. Any other suggestions? (Or, time to send it in for repairs?)

I have a Light Mountain that operated just fine from when new in Feb 2020 until Dec 2022. It sat on my layout while I was out of town for the holidays. When I returned (02/06/23) and tried to run the loco, it would only move forward a variable distance, then stop cold, then start again. This behavior repeated no matter how the throttle was set, and the starts/stops occurred if the loco was moving forward or reverse. (The track was clean and other locos ran without this problem.) Now, I discovered that the start/stop behavior disappeared if I muted the Sound. Any ideas why letting a loco sit unused would cause this problem to occur?

Thanks for any feedback

I own two Bachmann N scale 4-8-2 locos (Missouri Pacific 5203, Southern 1489). I've had the MP since early in 2019; the Southern was acquired Feb '20. Since both had the same default whistle, I wanted to change the whistles for each loco. There was no problem doing this for the Southern, but attempts to set different values for the MP's CV120 ended with a 'No Decoder ACK pulse' message on my Digitrax DCS 52. What could be causing my two locos to be acting differently?

I have a 4-8-2 that I purchased new last April. It ran just fine originally, but now it "stalls" when traveling over most turnouts.  The stall may be a momentary stop then a restart, or it may just stay stopped.  In either case the stop occurs when the rear truck of the tender is over the turnout frog.  Any ideas whats going on?
