You've all provided some good answers about what track better. The only question none of these seem to answer is if steel track can be used with DCC systems or not. I have no problems dealing with dirty track but I'm willing to try a DCC system sometime and I know nickel track is compatible with this but I find steel track more affordable but once more the only question that remains unanswered is will steel track work on a DCC system?

I had my father take it back to the hobby store where he got my set and they fixed it already and they did it for free too. Still this could be useful information, I would like to know how they did it.

So I got a the Home for the Holidays set for Christmas last year and the valve gear on the Mogul engine that came with it was broken. My father ordered a new part for it but when he tried to disassemble it in an effort to put it in he found that the chassis was super glued to the loco shell and is afraid if he tried to take it off he'll only break it more, I found the same problem.

I need someone to tell me the proper way to disassemble it so I can put the new valve gear in to make it work because I know this particular set is no longer in production so I won't be able to get another one. The locomotive's breakdown sheet might tell us how everything goes together but the fact that the chassis and motor are glued to the body is not how this should go. The locomotive shouldn't be this hard to take apart. I'm going to need the proper guidance for this, if I cannot fix it I will have to return my entire set.

I understand that steel is attracted to magnets and I'd like to know if those undertrack uncoupling magnets will have any effect if used with the steel alloy E-Z track. I've only seen it being used with the nickel track which I have plenty of however my Thomas set came with steel track. I know those E-Z track magnets will not work with any of my Thomas the Tank Engine rolling stock but it will for others that come with the E-Z mate couplers. I just need to know if those magnets will either have some sort of effect on the steel track of if the trains will still run as they do if the uncoupling magnets were used on nickel.

I own a lot of EZ track, most of it came with my HO and one On30 set. Most of what I have are nickel silver which I know is compatible with DCC systems however my Thomas set came with the steel kind. I was thinking of doing a whole layout and I know I can get the steel track for a lower price but I also want to run a DCC operation someday.

I've seen many use nickel silver for DCC systems but is it possible to use steel alloy rails for a DCC system? If so which one is better?
