N / Re: DCC Decoder Install for N Scale 4-6-0

I put sound in my 4-6-0....SDXN136PS decoder with a "sugar cube" speaker from Streamlined Backshops.  SBS4DCC is the online name....tight fit but, it sounds great and runs great...

I put sound in a Bachmann 4-6-0.....I used the Digitrax SDXN136PS decoder.  Contact Bryan at Streamlined Backshop http://www.sbs4dcc.com/sugarcubespeakers.html   He has the sugar cube speakers....it is a tight fit but, I am happy with the 4-6-0.

N / Bachmann N Scale 2-8-8-4 B&O
November 24, 2017, 02:24:10 PM
I bought 2-8-8-4 a couple of weeks ago...it runs great and I have added sound...my only issue is the drive linkage....I understand that proper handling of these units is critical.....I read somewhere that the boiler and tender shell are the best for picking up these units....now, I may have or may not have caused this issue....but, the unit runs fine in forward...even at a slow creep.  However, the linkage seems to bind up in reverse.  It does this every once in a while in forward at very slow speed.  I understand that it is probably the associated with the valve gear....is this something that I can address or, should I send it in a let Bachmann repair it....it isn't under warranty...

Thanks in advance for any response/advice

I am buying an EM-1 from an individual...I will want to add sound to the decoder...I understand that Bachmann makes an "add on" sound decoder for this locomotive....is that true?

N / N Scale Dcc OnBoard
May 22, 2017, 01:10:05 AM
Can someone explain to me what resides on the "main board" (front half) in the Bachmann 4-6-0?

I will be removing the Bachmann decoder (rear half) and will be installing a Digitrax decoder & speaker tomorrow...

Thanks

N / Bachmann 4-6-0 Adding Sound
May 21, 2017, 11:33:22 PM
I am going to install a Digitrax SDXN 136PS in my 4-6-0.....I have removed the tender shell and have identified the wires coming to the board....my plan to remove the board completely and wire in the new decoder......is there a good reason to leave the board in the tender?  If the new decoder is a stand alone sound decoder why would I need the board?

N / Re: 4-6-0 on Reverse Loop

The pickups on the locomotive and pickups on the tender are my concern.  I have to make sure they are both clearly in the transition before switching polarity.  I may not do the reverse loop, it just looks interesting.

N / 4-6-0 on Reverse Loop
November 26, 2016, 12:43:37 AM
I am fairly new to N Scale and I am struggling with my first layout.  I have a 42"x 132" area with which to work.  I am considering a "dog bone" on one area of the layout but, I have read that some steam engines have issues with reverse loops.  It has something to do with the pickups being on the locomotive and the tender.   I own a Bachmann 4-6-0.  Has anyone had any particular issues running Bachmann Steam on reverse loops?  Thanks

N / Re: 4-6-0 Tender Backup Lamp

Yes....I am running Dcc.  I am considering putting sound in the 4-6-0 anyway.  I am brand new to N Scale, 68 years old, and just a little hesitant to drill holes in a brand new locomotive.  I guess right now, I am looking for a fairly straight forward solution to this issue so that I can order the assembly and then possibly have someone else do the install.

It seems that the back up light could be a "headlamp" that is mounted on the rear of the tender.  I have found a couple of headlamps that might work.

I really didn't think it would be this much trouble.

I haven't found an after-market "backup lamp" for N Scale Steam.  Do you know where it can be bought?  I don't mind doing the install but, I can't find the lamp.

A vandy tender (model power) has the lamp installed and, the tender is dcc ready.  It should be a fairly easy swap but, the vandy tender in B&O is not available.  Sold Out.

Thanks

N / 4-6-0 Tender Backup Lamp
April 22, 2016, 08:26:54 AM
I just purchased (have not received it yet) a Bachmann N 4-6-0 "Ten Wheeler".  I want to add a backup lamp to the tender.  Are there any other tender shells with backup lamps that are interchangeable with the 4-6-0 tender?  If not, can a person buy the backup lamp assembly from Bachmann and install it?
