I have a Norfolk Southern GP38-2 that my grandson thought was a hot wheel and tried rolling on the carpet and stripped the truck drive gears. I see that I can buy replacement truck, but my question is: How do I remove the body so I can get to the trucks? Is there a schematic or something that will direct me in removing the body? I like this locomotive and really would like to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Definitely take some more pictures. Personally I think you did a great job and would like to see some pictures with more of the layout rather than just the close ups. Nice Layout!

Thanks for the tips, they really help. I saw another reply that you made on another post concerning ez track and glueing it to insulating board. I am absorbing all this in preparation of my first layout. This is really a great site to gather the information I need.

I am also interested to hear more about soldering ez track. Is this a common practice? Is soldering the track sections preferable to using the supplied track connectors? I'm also assuming it must be somewhat of a permanent installation and changing the track layout after soldering would be somewhat diificult. Does anyone have any tips/advice on soldering ez track? Love to hear any comments.

Thanks for the reply. It makes perfect sense, that's exactly what it looks like.
The train did come sealed in plastic, and came with a parts list/schematic and warranty info in a couple of languages, but nothing to indicate what the coal packet was for or any type of recommended break in period, or if any was required

I just got a new Bachmann Spectrum 2-8-0 Consolidation HO Scale #83605 and was directed to this forum to get, hopefully an answer to a couple of questions I have from the Bach Man.
So here goes.
There isn't any kind of owners manual that came with it other than the standard DCC programming instructions and I was wondering is there any recommended method of a "breaking in" period for these?
And this last question may seem a bit silly.
In the box along with a set of dummy plugs was a small sealed plastic packet of what looks like ground up charcoal, which naturally is black in color, and I was wondering what this was. I don't believe it is some kind of moisture absorbant since it is sealed in plastic. Any ideas what it is? Or even if it is supposed to be in the box.
I'm new to the hobby as you can probably tell and appreciate any help I can get.
