HO / Re: Spare tender?
May 04, 2013, 06:49:35 PM
richg,

You understood the original question! Yes, the tender you showed in your post is what I have been looking for. If you will send me your email I'd like to talk about it.

How do answers to questions get SO FAR OFF TRACK? It's amazing to me!

Of course it won't immediately connect to my Mantua 0-6-0! Other than brass imports I can't think of any two different manufacturers that will connect their tenders and engines to each other without some work. Even some brass imports won't do that! Of course if interbreeding equipment the wiring may not be right. Yes, I considered a brass tender but they were going too high on ebay the last few I saw. I'm not adverse to using a brass tender with the Mantua 0-6-0 but this is just a project to improve the looks of the engine as I really hate slope back tenders. I have 3 superdetailed, remotored Mantua 2-8-2s with NWSL brass N&W tenders and, yes, they took some work to make work. Not brain surgery by any means.

HO / Spare tender?

I have a Mantua 0-6-0 with the slope back tender. I want to change that tender as I'm not fond of that style. I would really like a short Vanderbilt like the one that comes with the Bachmann USRA 0-6-0. Unfortunately, it isn't sold as a separate item. Does anyone have one of these they could part with?

HO / Re: caboose wanted
March 02, 2013, 06:03:21 PM
There are quite a few models of M&PA cabooses available as well as most equipment the road operated. This is a very popular road to model. MR did many equipment plans in the mid 1960's when they were doing the series on building the Manchester & Paradise layout.

2002 was a wooden 4 wheel trucked cab that eventually got a sliding door on one side-Overland imported one

2003-2006 were all bobbers
2006 was an ex-Pennsy ND which was made by QC, Ambroid, NESM as wood kits and also in brass by Sunset.

reasonable models of the 2003-2005 can be made from AHM, Bachmann or Mantua plastic kits or brass models by GEM (Reading Co) Oriental (GN) and others, The GN car is quite close to the 2005.

2007 was a wooden version of the Northeastern caboose They got it from the Reading.  Bethlehem Car Works has a kit and NJCB imported a brass one

Hope that helps you out.

The MTH sets and individual cars show up on ebay quite frequently. Some shops may also have them. They are the most accurate N&W Powhatan Arrow cars on the market besides brass imports.

HO / Re: N&W tenders

The 16,000 gallon tender was imported by Sunset for the N&W K-3 4-8-2 & also the D&RGW, W&LE and RF&P engines that were purchased from the N&W. They aren't too frequently for sale anywhere but I have managed to pick up 2 on ebay in the past 3 years.

The 18,000 gallon tender is the fishbelly frame tender that was imported by NWSL for their N&W E-2 4-6-2. These tenders are very common on ebay with & without trucks. They were available with 6 wheel Buckeye trucks or the N&W Lewis type which was also a 6 wheel type.

Neither N&W import comes with a doghouse. The Susnet version for the D&RGW may have one though.

HO / RF-16's

WOW!! I just went swimming on ebay and found some Sharks!

I got an ABA set for a great price. I have only tested them so far but I'm very impressed with the way they run and look. My only complaint is the huge distance between the units. Has anyone done any mods on theirs to close up the gap? Has anyone done any detailing or added a Tsunami to one yet?

Thanks, Bachmann!!

HO / New NE style caboose
July 10, 2011, 06:48:35 AM
Hey Mr. Bach-Man,

Any chance the new caboose will have a body for the Western Maryland with the correct end windows? How about in the Fast Freight paint scheme or undecorated? Pleeeeaaasseee!

Kinda looks like the old Boyd Models Green Bay & Western Mogul to me. I'm glad to see something small come out. Seems like only Bachmann wants to produce anything smaller than Super Power steamers.

HO / Re: Transcontinental Oil tank cars

Thanks for the answer about the Transcon tankers. I have 5 of them so far and was looking for a good way to use them on the layout. I just loved the colors and have a thing for 3 dome tanks!

Is the lettering on the Bachmann Transcontinental Oil Co. 3 dome tank accurate? Any info on the company?

Thanks,

General Discussion / NERS
April 24, 2011, 10:00:05 PM
Does anyone know if NERS (New England Rail Service) is out of business? I went to their website and it was gone. Walthers lists a lot of their products but says they are out of stock awaiting delivery.

Does anyone know a source for their parts?

Thanks,

On30 / Re: SR&RL conversion from Bachmann 2-8-0
February 08, 2009, 05:59:20 PM
WOW!!!!  Scot...........your pages and work are unbelievable!! I just managed to get a quick glance at the conversion and the passenger car conversion but I can see I'll be spending a lot of time there!

Thanks for the help and leading the way. I don't know if I'll do the 2 foot thing or stay with On30 yet. I kinda like the very narrow and top hevy look of the pure SR&RL though. I don't know if I have the skills to convert a Forney or 2-8-0.

Looks like I need to find a modelers table saw too. I agree that 12' of parallel cuts with a hand saw is way too much!

Congratulations on your beautiful work and for the help.

On30 / SR&RL conversion from Bachmann 2-8-0
February 08, 2009, 04:53:13 PM
Has anyone done a conversion of the Bachmann outside frame 2-8-0 into an engine SIMILAR to a SR&RL 2-6-0 or 2-6-2? If so, can you give me some hints?

Thanks,
Roger

HO / Re: N&W M class
December 30, 2007, 03:47:43 AM
Hi, Andrew.

There have been several HO scale N&W class M's imported. They were brought in by LMB and twice by Sunset. I don't think Precision did the M. The LMB version came with the USRA tender. The Sunsets came with the larger 6 wheel truck tenders.

PSC did the M-2 in several versions. I have one and it's a beauty! Sunset also did the M-2 twice and I have one from the each run and they're also fine engines.

The M-1 was done twice by Susnset too.
