Thomas & Friends / Thomas HO Engines w/DCC
May 30, 2024, 08:11:00 AM
I would like to see Bachmann bring out a DCC version of all Thomas engines. I have purchased many of the engines over the past few years and then had DCC control (no sound) added to all of them. It would just be nice to already installed.

I have collected many of the HO T&F engines and rolling stock. I would like to see more on the locos brought out with decoders installed. I also have G Scale equipment and same goes for them. Would save me the time of doing it myself.

Ed S.,
My entire layout is EZ-Track. I have seen the same change. Can't say that it's any better or worse than the older. If the track doesn't have the holes I just drill them as needed. I haven't noticed the problem with taken sections apart. I certainly wouldn't replace the track as it has seen an increase in price.

Per Bachmann's catalog, a 2-10-0 has a minimum of 22" radius. I would think a 2-10-2 would be the same.

I've had a number of these do the same thing. Sometimes I would take a small pair of channel locks or pliers and gently clamp on the flat side of the plug to pull them together. Problem with that is I'll never be able to pull apart. I wish Bachmann would produce turnout connectors like their competitor and I could use my own wire.

DCC Ready means that the DCC Socket Connector is installed in the loco but you have to install the DCC Decoder.

HO / Re: HO Layout using SCARM

What is the distance between the track ends? My layout is fairly large EZ-Track (16x16 L Shaped). Most of it was designed using AnyRail. I had several locations where the track ends were slightly apart and I found there was enough 'play' to connect or I found the 'right' combination of shorter lengths. Good luck.

I've had a sound problem on several occasions over the years. Mine were always 'speaker' related. I sent the locos back to Bachmann and they would repair them. Most of the time the speaker needed to be replaced.

Thanks Yardmaster. This should do the trick.

HO / Uncoupler For Thomas & Friends Rolling Stock

Do they make an uncoupler or what would be a good device or tool to use?
Thanks

Check the connectors (short rail joiner) between the sections where the loco is stopping. If a rail connector (short rail joiner) is missing on each end of a section you will probably lose power.

Len, that's why you make the big bucks. I did have it up-side down. I will need to file down the 'gear bulge' a little since it still hangs up. Thanks.

Bachmann 4-4-0, 0-6-0, 2-6-0, 4-6-0, 2-6-2, 2-8-0, 2-8-2 listed as working on 18"R. When you step up to a 2-8-4 you may need to go to 22"R.  Now this is Code 100 track. Code 83 may be completely different.

I noticed today that the width of the magnet may be what's causing the magnet to sit too high. It appears the both side/edges of the magnet are resting on the tie plates holding the rail. This is on both the EZ-Track and Atlas track.

FYI. I tried the double sided Scotch Brand tape. I have a 2-6-0 that hangs up on the magnet. Magnet seems to be just slightly higher than the rails. Haven't checked the under-side of loco to see what's going on. Rolling stock seems to be ok. I'll shave a little of the ties down to lower the magnet.
