On30 / Re: converting the 4-6-0
October 24, 2011, 05:53:03 PM
It would be great if Bachmann/Williams would come with a small std. gauge 4-6-0 or 2-8-0 in O scale easily convertable to P48.  Then no conversions would be needed.

N / Re: N Scale Steam

Love all the comments.

Working front couplers would be favored by me for switching.

Being a Texan, many USRA style tenders had oil bunkers, i.e. MKT, T&P, MP,etc.

USRA 4-6-2's and 2-8-2's, light and heavy, with the level of detail Bachman uses[such as seperate handrails] would be very desirable for the above roads.

Extra parts on On30 and HO Bachman locos don't seem to add very much costs.

Overall I think we are all on the same page.  Very to see Bachman lead the way with quality N scale steam.  It will lead many ex-pats back to N scale.  All comments are just observations of things learned in other scales.

N / N Scale Steam
January 18, 2011, 07:07:09 PM
I started N scale in the 60's with Postage Stamp Trains.  Since then I have been in about every scale.  I am pleased to see the advances Bachman has done to N scale steam, however I wonder about a few things that they and others have done to advance the level of steam.

Why no working front couplers?

Why no options as to coal to oil bunkers?

Why no uniform drawbar connections on all tenders?

Why no optional parts, as in HO or On30, such as doghouses, trailing- lead truck, or domes?

The new 4-6-0 may lead me back into N.  A complete USRA selection would put me over the top.

How about Baldwin Trench Locomotives:

4-6-0T or Gas mechanical, along with the associated cars.

Mr. Bach-man
You told me at the WGH show in San Antonio, that if I didn't like the upcoming loco release, that you would send me one free.  I don't like it times two.. Both undecorated  versions with sound.  Please e-mail me for my mailing address.

I would not like to see it pushing a string of Koppel ore cars up the incline to the ore transfer.in Boquillas...no way. And where's my Outside frame Hawaiian 0-6-2T, and my cane cars, and my pineapple cars, and my steel Boxcar...

On30 / Re: The Christmas that wasn't

Let's all stand back and consider how fortunate we in On30 are to have the number of offerings we all have, compared to any other Narrow Gauge scale.  HOn3, only a few new locos that run well, Sn3 controlled mostly by one company, with very nice, but very expensive locos, On3, well those guys are just jealous of all the RTR locos we have, and Nn3, been there, lost the eyesite and funds.  Bachmann
has introduced more people to narrow gauge through G,F,and O scale than perhaps any other company.  I have been in all these other scales and am very glad to have all these options, without any conversions or super expensive brass.  Can't thank Bachmann enough.

On30 / Re: what do you model
July 28, 2008, 08:55:06 PM
I model 1930's era mining and common carrier 30" gauge in the Big Bend region of Texas and Chihuahua.

Rio Grande Northern-common carrier from the mining region up to Marathon, with connection to the T&NO.

Chisos Mining Co.-Company owned mining road

        Terlingua Tramway-18" mining tram

On30 / On30 45 Tonner
July 17, 2008, 08:23:49 PM
Now that a 45 tonner is out in HO in the older version, how about doing it in On30?  Then you could offer O scale trucks and... Instant O std. gauge loco at a minimal increase in production cost.  Bet we could use it for that std. gauge interchange we've all been wanting to model.
