HO / Spectrum 2-10-2

Can anyone identify for me where each wire from the circuit board in the tender ultimately goes to (eg. headlight, motor ...)?  Thanks.

HO / Spectrum 2-10-2 headlight

How do I remove the smokebox front of the Spectrum 2-10-2 to replace the headlight bulb/LED?  If I have to remove the boiler to do that, how do I remove the boiler?

HO / Re: Adding sound to a 2-10-2

Thanks Rusty.  I tried reversing the plug for the sound unit and got no sound.  I turned the plug around and everything works except the front and rear lights.  I even tried reversing the wires from the circuit board to the lights and that did not work either.

I added an MRC sound unit to my 2-10-2 and now the headlight and rear light don't work.  I've pressed Function 0 to no avail.  The lights did work before I plugged in the MRC unit.  Any ideas as to what is wrong?

HO / Re: MTH HO Triplex Drive Wheels
May 17, 2008, 07:08:03 AM
I have no continuity problems and I only run the Triplex with train at 10 scale miles an hour, the same as the prototype.  I do run my other trains at much faster speeds; all without problem.  I have 33 inch minimum radius on my layout but I do not oil the track.  I do not have noise, binding or derailment problems from dry track and my train has a mixture of metal and plastic wheels.  There is some crud build-up at turnout points but I watch for that and remove it with a track cleaning block.  I think if you dry your track and put the traction tire drivers on your Triplex you will find it to be a very smooth and good puller.

I put the traction tire drivers on my Triplex and it pulls a 54 car train on my layout easily.

I have both the MTH K-4 and the Triplex.  They are both terrific locomotives with great sound and smoke.  I do not operate dcc or dcs.  I run my MTH engines with an MRC Black Box and that lets me access most of the sound features of the MTH engines.  I use Quantum Engineer to run my QSI sound equiped engines and DC Master to run my LokSound engines (although I also use the Black Box to run the LokSound engines).  I keep the Triplex to 10mph just like the prototype and it looks and sounds great.  I have it pulling a 54 car train and it is quite a sight.  I use a dpdt switch to switch between the Black Box and the Quantum Engineer/DC Master.  And plain analog dc no sound engines run on the Quantum Engineer/DC Master side of the switch with no problems.

General Discussion / Re: Chinese 2-10-2

Yes.  They make/made a model of the Chinese QJ 2-10-2.  It is a beautifully detailed model that runs very well.  I have one and have been very pleased with it.  Bachmann also makes models of Chinese passenger and freight cars which would be appropriate for the QJ to pull.

Thanks guys.  Based on your advice I installed the module in my loco and it is working.  I have an issue with the whistle control using the hand held controller (the whistle works fine on the 'black box') and I have a call in to MRC.

Thanks Gene, I'll try that.  Are there more than two capacitors and if so how do I identify the ones to isolate?

Thanks, but my problem is that I don't find enough room in the tender to install an MRC dc sound decoder and speaker.  I unplugged and removed the DCC board that came with the engine but there is not enough room for both the new decoder and speaker.  Has anyone solved this problem, and how?  Thanks.

I want to install an MRC DC sound decoder in my Spectrum 2-10-2.  Do I just unplug the DCC decoder in the tender and plug in the sound decoder in its place?  I operate on analog DC.
