I bought a Bachmann Pacific Flyer, and now, it slows down on full forward speed, but will go full speed backwards. Also, when it goes forward, it shoots out a ton of sparks

well, to start things off, what do you mean by "attach"? it could mean colour, size, knuckle couplers, or... not. describe?

do you still have the instruction manual? if so, check it. I have the same problems with my HO Pacific Flyer set, the train won't go at full speed forwards, but will go fast backwards. so, check the manual if you have it. you can also take the train apart and look at it
