General Discussion / Running 2 locomtives in a consist

Greeting,

Can I run 2 diesel locomotives with 2 different brands of decoders? One is a Digitrax (no sound), the other is a MRC (With sound).

Thank you for the info. I will put the speaker in a box and drill holes.

Yes it is in the tender. I did not put it in a box or drill holes. Tho I have thought about drilling holes.
What would putting the speaker in box do?

General Discussion / Digitraxx Sound Decoder

I installed a Digitraxx Sound decoder in my Mikado, I set the CV for the sound to 65(max) and it is not very loud. I cannot hear the whistle as a go around the track. Are Digitraxx Sound Decoder just not loud or is the something I can do to make it louder?

HO / Re: Conveting a HOn3 Shay to HO

If it's HOn3, it's already HO scale. Is what your asking how to convert it to run on standard gauge track instead of narrow gauge?

If so, the anwwer is yes and no. You should know the Roundhouse HOn3 Shay is the same as their HO Shay, just with smaller trucks installed. It's not really possible to change the wheel gauge enough on those trucks for standard gauge.

But...Roundhouse was purchased by Athearn, which has a fairly extensive parts department. So you might want to contact the parts people at Athearn/Roundhouse to see if they have the HO trucks and power pickups. In which case it should be a simple job to swap them out and have a standard gauge loco. If not, you'll have to check shows for a standard gauge version.

Yes I want my shay to run on standard HO instead of narrow gauge. So I will contact Athearn and see if they have HO trucks.
I should have just bought a HO, but as they only had a HOn3.
Hopefully I will be able to get the HO trucks if not I could always put some HOn3 track on my layout.

I agree. I have to ability. How much would it cost? Do you know where I can purchase what is required?
When I purchased it several years ago the train store did not have a HO scale one and it was only $79.00.

Try this place:   https://www.logicrailtech.com/
They carry Tomar semaphores and control circuits for them. I bought from them several times and had no problems. Their freight charges are reasonable . I have my orders sent priority mail( 2 to 3 days). Click on products, signal then Tomar.   JOe

I will check them out thank you

Tiger Master;
NJ International is not the only manufacturer of signaling systems.  Go on line and start to do some research regarding this; then you can impart this info to the rest of us as well.
Another approach is to scratch build semaphores.  While looking as daunting as the school yard bully, there have, over the years, been a lot of articles regarding construction of said semaphore.
As well, I would be at least passively curious as to how you have become known as "Tiger master"...  (Perhaps you read 'Gunga Din" (Kipling)...
And Roger T;
Do you by chance, work for Bachmann?
SGT C.

Thank you for the info. I will do some research and maybe scratchbuild one.
I came up with Tiger Master myself. I love tigers.

Well I thought maybe someone could have heard something. The manufactures are not saying.

Yeah I figure it is inflation on the 4-4-0's

Does anyone know why NJ International and Tomar Industries not have any HO upper quadrant semaphore, with no dates of their expected return?

And why are Bachmann 4-4-0 Steam Locomotives so high priced, I purchased one several years ago for under $100 from a local hobby shop?

6ft
I purchased them from Walthers. ( I do not remember the brand)
I also bought chairs for Walthers (I do not remember the brand) and the chairs are very small. And a standing figure the table goes up to about the chest.
