Large / Re: Bachmanns horse stock car..

To disassemble the animated stock car is fairly easy. The floor of the car has 8 tabs, four on each side, that go into slots on the body of the car. Start in the middle of the car and spread the body of the car until the center tabs clear and then free the other tabs and lift the body off.  The livestock heads are screwed to the center, swinging beam and can be removed to work on the heads individually.

What is the smallest gauge wire one should use when doing battery conversions on Spectrum Locomotives?

Loco Bill Canelos' articles in the Apr & Jun 2014 GRM issues do an excellent job of describing the conversion.  If you cannot get your hands on  those back issues let me know I can get you copies of them.  Another source of a 4-6-0 conversion will be found at the following Web site:

Those screws are very small.  For that size of screw I use a pair of fine, curved tipped tweezers to hold it in place while starting it with a screw driver.  For larger, but still small, screws I use a tool which Micro-Mark calls a "Grabber" and Kadee calls a "Five Prong Gripper" which allows you to grab the screw by the end and start it.  I then finish up with a jeweler's screwdriver.

I just went to the Micro-Mark site http://www.micromark.com/mini-hand-tools/tweezers-grabbers?order=onlinecustomerprice:desc&show=48 and found thirty items that might interest you.

Large / Forney R/C, Battery and Sound
March 03, 2017, 02:25:41 PM
I have recently purchased a Bmann Forney locomotive and would like to convert the engine to remote control, battery power & install a phoenix Sound board.  My question to anybody who has done such work is, "where did you put everything?"  The R/C unit will probably go  in the P-N-P board and the speaker under the Loco's main board, but where did you put the battery & Sboard?  I have ideas, but would like to hear other ideas.  There is no use trying to reinvent the wheel.

Correction:  The correct issues are the 2nd  & 3rd issues of 2014.  That would be April & June.

For starters:
#83195 is a model of a Baldwin C-19 4-8-0 engine and is scaled 1:20.3.
#91602 is a model of a 4-6-0 locomotive and is scaled 1"representing 22.5".  This model is much smaller than the C-19 and also much less sophisticated.

You do not say whether your layout is indoors or out.  The Bachmann steel track will not work outdoors, it will quickly rust.

"It's not needed, so you can just cut it out if you're installing new controls."

Thank you, Kevin.  Your answer is what I thought, but I wanted conformation before I cut it off.
