LID turnouts are the best....I bought about 10 of the turnouts and it's exceptional quality. I can recommend them to anyone, the after-sales service from Gary ( the owner of LID ) is very friendly and professional.

Shame...it could be a nice addition to the layout..ah well, could have been an interesting project. But if you already tried it there's no need for me to re-invent the wheel... ;D

Thanks Harold,

Are you sure ?
I can imagine that the chuff can't be synced when using a wheel cam...but isn't the chuff speed increased when you open the trottle ? So both decoders should react the same i.m.o.

Of course, the "under the table" sound output has to be filtererd from its hig freq sounds first....

Did anyone try this?

I don't think that it would be a problem to do this, could be done in the same way as with the car audio systems with a seperate woofer...

Hang a nice subwoofer under your railroad table, connect the decoder and a pre-amp which filters the higher frequency sounds and let the neighbours enjoy !

When I saw the first pictures ( view from above ) a few days ago I had my doubts, now that I've seen the other pictures I am definitely going to get one, possibly two....it's a beauty !

Mmm, I am curious how my turnouts turned out. A friend of mine brought nine of them from the USA to The Netherlands, I still have to pick them up..
And you're right, it's a hassle to get them replaced when not living in the USA, I hope I won't get the same problem...

There is another turnout option, you've probably heard of the Fasttrack turnout jigs which make it easy to make your own turnouts.
There is a company, called Light Iron Digest who makes these turnouts in code 83, which match the M.E. track. The turnouts can be ordered through here: http://www.maine2footquarterly.com/turnout.htm
i just ordered 9 turnouts from them, I heard they are very good and professionally made.

It isn't finished yet, It's waiting on a shelve to be finished...currently I am moving my layout to another room and I have no time to work on it yet..
I also didn't experiment with the minimum radius yet, I started this one when my layout was already down. But I think it should be able to handle an 18" curve....

Ok...a porter, a coach and a decoder....it seems that a decoder isn't easy to hide in the porter and I've read that a coach doesn't seem right when coupled to a porter...
But this combination has it al....and ample space for a decoder and a speaker  ;D
