I finally got it done! I shoe horned an NWSL 2032 into the space that the old 3 pole motor fitted into. Had to cut about 1/4 to 3/8ths of the boiler weight off to be able to get it in there. Also had to modify an old drive shaft that I had laying around. Fabricating a piece of 1/8th x 3/8ths  brass stock for a motor mount was another big job. With the old motor in the engine, it was jerky at low speed, and would stop running until it was tapped or even pushed. Now its low speed is smooth. Top speed seems to be right for that model, so I'm not going to mess with the gearing. While it's working good, I know I'll have to replace that drive shaft with a good one from NWSL soon.

Has anyone on this board remotored an old Rivarossi Cab forward 4-8-8-2 engine? I'm told that there were several people that have done it using the directions from the web site "Micro-loco-motion.com". I contacted him about the directions but he said since those remotoring jobs were done 5 years ago, he no longer has copies of those directions. He said several people did the modification and someone may have a copy yet.

I still run old Win98SE. That allows me to boot off the WIN98 cd-rom. After the boot it asks if you want to continue with setup. Your answer would be NO. The next screen that comes up is the black DOS screen from which you can copy your files to other disks. I don't know if this can be done with WIN XP, but it might be worth checking into.

General Discussion / Preserve zinc weights
May 31, 2007, 12:06:34 PM
Is there a treatment that will help to preserve the zinc weights found in the old Rivarossi Cab Forward steam engines. I read of someone that used a treatment of that metal somewhere on the internet, but don't remember where I read it or what he did. I have two of these engines, in one of them the zinc weight looks like it is just starting to deteriate.

General Discussion / Re: Grade question
May 30, 2007, 12:41:09 PM
About 10 years ago I downloaded a program named APSCU off the internet. It has been one of the handiest modeling programs I've used. At the time the writer asked $5.00 for it, so it was cheap. The pogram calculates grades, it also calculates proto to just about any scale you could name. Their is only one problem with it, he has since stopped selling it. I don't know what the legality is to copy it for others to use. Maybe somebody with legal knowledge could help out here.

HO / Re: Bachmann long haul tender

Thanks for all your help. The reason I couldn't figure out how to take it apar was because the previous owner took the speaker and DCC parts, and then for some reason glued the tray that held those parts inside the tender. Your comment about the removal of the front of the tender gave me a clue about disassembly. Thanks again

This is a 14 wheel tender. (catepillar?) There doesn't seem to be any seams along the sides, to, or bottom. it's as if the tender was cast as one piece.

HO / Bachmann long haul tender
May 10, 2007, 02:42:43 PM
I recently bought a Bachmann long haul tender off Ebay and would like to get a look at the inside of it. I got the front off and can see a screw about midway down the tender, but can't reach it with a screwdriver. Can anyone help me with this.
Just a note, This is a goldmine, clean language, and excellent help.
