General Discussion / Re: Make up your own Railroad?
February 18, 2012, 10:22:25 AM

Having access to the 1945 Edition of MOODY'S  Steam Railroads which has 20 pages listed for Railroads  covered and 5 pages of Railroads listed but not in the book, will  never run out of names to put on rolling stock. Some RR have names longer then their total trackage  <G>,

In the book "Locomotivas Articuladas"  from Brazil are a few protoype kitbashs<G> of interest.

take 2    0-4-0Ts add lead / trailing trucks and you end up with a Garratt 2-4-0+0-4-2T
take 2    80Ton SHAYS add tenders and convert them to 4-6-2s Pacific's
     lastly      a 80 Ton SHAY converted to a Kitson-Meyer style  2-6-0+0-6-2T

All used on Meter Gauge lines in Brazil.

When you look at some protoype kitbashs, there are lot's of kitbash's waiting to be done<G>.

General Discussion / Re: DPDT wiring frustration
October 08, 2010, 01:51:31 AM

The switch is a 3PDT, from your wiring descrpition, it appears you may have input/otput lead backwards'
Power should go to the center posts on outside row (center row of posts not used)
Output to one set of outer posts with the diagonals left as is.

For what it is worth, looking at Baldwin spec's for a 7 Ton 0-4-2T Engine,
It is rated at 20 Tons on  4% grade, 15 Tons on a 5% grade.

  Pricey but worth every penny!.

On30 / Re: Correct prototype
May 20, 2010, 09:47:07 AM

Just an extra note to add to Hamish's  excellent writeup  on the protoype 4-6-0

Baldwin did build 3 IF 4-6-0s for the EFOM in 1913, but no where near the size of the  Bachmann 4-6-0.  Baldwin SN  40871/40873, maybe some one can find a erection card for the engines. There has to be a suitable HO 4-6-0 which could be used to build one or two.

On30 / Re: what is On21/2?
May 02, 2010, 05:52:18 PM

Better change history as Baldwin specification (also many other engine builders)shown gauge as 2FT 6in rather then 30in gauge. Most listing of 30In gauge are
mining locomotives. On30 was a  Bachmann choice rather then the real world of
Railroad's which are either 2FT 6In or 76 cm.

The Price 16 wheeler is on my O2IT list, behind 5or6 other conversions<G>.
Do have a modelling article on constructing the Beast.

Downloaded list of Price engines and the TTT 2-4-4-2, in NZ and plan to get photos next year, missed NZ last trip after the AU NG convention.
