General Discussion / Re: engine power

Yes.  As a rule and not an absolute, the heavier the loco, the more pulling power it tends to have.  And yes, consisting 2 locos each with power can have the ability to pull more cars.  That is something you would have to experiment with as there is a power to weight ratio to consider.  Grades will also play a role in how many cars can get towed along.

Are you asking if different motors take varying voltages to get going?

Are you interested in DC or DCC?

HO scale or another scale?

For about what now, about the 3rd or is it 4th time??  LOL  Probably ran back over to the MRR Forum where no one pays any attention to him.

At least he got to fill us in the on the Amherst Train Show for this year and where to eat before he left...

Fishy you can also accomplish the same thing using Single Pole Double Throw On/Off/On toggle switches.  Some like the look better than the Atlas hardware.  1 switch will control Cab A and Cab B on a block.

ModelTrainStuff and Trainworld also sell lots of Bachmann products.  In fact, MTS is having a sale on Bachmann products as we type.  It pays to shop the NET.

I have done a bit of reading and many modelers do not recommend lubing the axles because this eventually leads to collection of dirt and dust....and oil drips on the track.   Any advice?

You were smart to read and research this and pay attention to what you read bc this advice;

It's perfectly fine to lube the axles

...is flawed for the very reasons you previously read the warnings about.

don't be so quick to insist that somebody Must Buy this or that niche tool.

What is so wrong for recommending a niche tool ??? It is the very reason such things exist ::)

Lots of excellent advice already given here.  Although, personally not a fan of "The Train Show" for several reasons, including the entry fee, parking fee, cost of gas and inherent handicap in being able to effectively "price shop" as touched on, it is a great thing for kids to get to and to make a family day out of it.

Quite a few ATM's also.
Many vendors do accept credit cards but I prefer to use cash.

ATMs are only good if they are for your bank and don't charge you what is an exhorbitant fee to take money out of them...
I prefer NOT to use cash if I have the option to use a CC instead, more consumer protections if things go south on the purchase.  Don't like using "debit cards" for the same reason.

The dangerous vendors are the ones who take credit cards

Regards,

Jonathan

Why "dangerous" ???  You must mean dangerous for you bc you would then be tempted to spend more, right?  LOL  :D Well that is where self discipline comes into play :D ;).    I like using a CC for reasons I have stated above and previously.  If I had a choice between a buying from a vendor who took a CC and one that only took cash and the price difference was not significant, I am gong with the CC.

While you are at it replacing the couplers with ones with metal springs, I would put a small drop (teeny tiny) of CA Gel glue on the spring at the end closest to the shank.  This will help keep the spring from spronging off; they are a PITA to have to replace and you're better off not having to.  ;)

I stand corrected then, apologies :-[  But bottom line, you weren't clear from the get go.

I don't know what other folks do, but I am not going to go through the trouble of looking up model #s that a poster provides; instead of providing that, the poster seeking help, should know what scale they are having trouble with and simply provide that info from the start.

You did not previously answer my question about whether you were asking about an HO or N scale loco.  Even in your last post, you are referencing ballasting "HO track before the N track gets delivered".    ???   This is confusing to say the least.   In the future, know there is an N Scale section to this forum and that perhaps you would have found your answer if you posted there.  It is not until your latest pics (I had asked for additional ones all along) that it is finally clear that you are asking about an N scale loco problem.  Frankly, you should have stated such from the get go and placed your question in the right place for a chance at better results. :)

for the barbed wire, I used my new favorite modeling medium:  2lb test fishing line.  I tried that twisted wire technique on the youtube video... not so good for me.

Regards,

Jonathan

Looking great, of course, as per usual :)

Just a point of information; razor wire and barbed wire are not the same.  I would not have bothered with following that video either, it  was not one, clearly, that I had referred to.
