N / Modified USRA 0-6-0
October 30, 2015, 09:37:03 PM
Here is my Bachmann USRA 0-6-0 that I modified. I added detailing to the cylinders and a different  air pump. I filled down the inside of the boiler shell above the motor brush, this lets the shell sit level on the chassis (now there is a new shorter motor so this will but unnecessary on new releases) I also added a short spectrum tender with the old Atlas 0-8-0 tender shell.

Bachmann is there any plans on adding a spectrum tender to the USRA 0-6-0s ?

Nobody has any weathered K4s or 2-8-4s photos to share?

I am working on the Bachmann 0-6-0.  I am putting a  spectrum USRA short tender frame with the Atlas narrow coal bunker tender shell. I have already added detailing to the cylinders and added other details to the boiler. I will post photos when I am done

I really like your 2-6-6-0.  Did you have to modify the frame to get the shell to fit?

I was thinking it would be nice to see kitbashed or weathered  Bachmann steam locomotives.
Lets see your Bachmann steam   Here are two of my projects

This is a lightly weathered USRA 2-10-2 with delta trailing truck.

N / USRA 2-6-6-2

This is a  1st release DC  USRA 2-6-6-2 that I weathered and added a delta trailing truck. I runs very good. It is from my freelance M&W railway I use Santa Fe numbers on the tender because the first steam that I got were lettered for santa Fe and all I have to do is remove the letters from the tender and keep the large numbers. Also it is easy to find santa fe steam and decals

N / 0-8-0 kitbash using Bachmann parts
October 02, 2015, 06:08:31 PM
I just finished a 0-8-0 using a Bachmann 2-8-0 boiler and cab and the spectrum USRA short tender chassis . The drive is  from a  Japanese company it has scale 52" drivers. I have been using only Bachmann spectrum tenders behind most locomotives. I had to shorten the boiler on the cad end so that the cab would fit around the wide motor of the chassis.
Bachmann parts are great for kitbashers, even thought right now they are out of 2-8-0 shells.
Here is a short before and after kitbash video.

Thanks Bachmann for your great tenders.

N / K4 trailing truck question
September 16, 2015, 10:42:06 AM
Bachmann do the trailing trucks on your K4 mount the same as your other engines? And second will they be available as separate parts? If the answer is yes to both, this would be great for those of as wanting to convert our Bachmann engine to delta trailing trucks.

thanks RGW

I run Dual mode DCC locos on my Dc layout with no problem  Y3 with sound,Bachmann 2-10-2,2-6-0,4-6-0. I use MRC control master 20 ? forget the name.and other MRC tech2s with pulse off buttons and have used the Kato and bachmann controlers with no problems.

One thing to note sound equipped take more valtage to start. My walthers Y3s do start up( begin sound.lights) until about 7 volts and will not move until the voltage is a little higher yet.

N / Bachmann K4 and brass
August 31, 2015, 11:07:57 PM
Just saw a brass K4 for sale on Ebay for buy it now price $300 and it does not look nearly as good as Bachmann's. Does the price of brass engines go down with new release of better running and looking plastic engine?

N / Re: removing paint from the 2-8-0

I can just paint over the green, since it is going to be black, not much of a problem with coverage. I like to strip the paint because some times it can get a little thick and hides the  details. As for the tender I will change it out for a USRA short tender.

N / removing paint from the 2-8-0
August 25, 2015, 06:09:16 PM
Just picked up a used Spectrum 2-8-0,but it is in Southern green. I want to strip the paint from the boiler and cab,in the past I have used  91% isopropol alcohol on Bachmann diesel shells, but
has any body tried removing the paint from there steam locomotives? I would just order a new shell, but they are sold out.

Bachmann You have made many a N scaler happy with this release. Who would have thought 20 years ago that Bachmann would be the main stay in producing such quality steam.
Good JOB.

I would think that there is going to be many Kitbash projects with this engine. Hopefully you will have K4 parts ( especially Boilers ) available.

With these new releases might the sound decoder be available to add to past dualmode DCC engines? So we could just plug and play. I have your USRA Lt 2-10-2

Has there been any changes to the cylinder detail?

N / Re: New driveshaft for N-Scale E60CP?
July 11, 2015, 08:18:52 AM
You might try Ebay for a junk/parts engine, just make sure it has the drive shafts. Many of the the older engines with white axle gear would split making the engine unrunable/ barely runable. Because of this you may be able to get a good deal on one of theses.

Thanks for the link. A person could possibly bash a  Union/DM&IR  0-10-2 from the Lt 2-10-2 , drivers would be a scale 4 inches to small, but this probably be acceptable for many.
Any DM&IR n scaler want to try?
