The NS Roundhouse in Asheville NC. is no more.
I was there first week of December last year when I went looking for it.
Was a landmark.
Yard is unchanged.
Maybe a bit more busy then 10 years ago.
Car shops are still there.
But Roundhouse and turntable gone.

This is the EM1 correct?
If so...

Exactly where did the smoke come from?
The Locomotive?
Or the Tender?

If from the lokie, then have a look and test the motor.
If from the tender, then have a look and test the decoder.

How to open the lokie and tender here;

Parts here;

N / Re: need to regauge wheels and drivers
December 14, 2018, 08:27:07 PM
I use only one screwdriver usually against the frame and the Driver, and do as @DaveGard does.
As he states "go slow and careful".
I find baby steps are best.
Also check with your NMRA Gauge as you rotate the Wheelset/Driver 360°, assuring the wheel backs are parallel to eachother and square to the railhead.

Good luck

Dear Santa,

Please bring me 4 of the above. ^
I've been a good boy all year.

I'll leave cookies and milk on the table.

N / Re: PCC streetcar on 117 mm?
November 13, 2018, 11:00:54 PM
Don't own one.
So, I thought I'd go see what the Spook had to say.
http://www.spookshow.net/locolist.php?traction=2&nonbrass=3&sortby=4&Submit=Submit

Unfortunately, he does not comment on curve radius.
My calculator says that 117mm is 4.6 in.
Why so tight?

B'mann says:
Performs best on 11.25" radius curves or greater

Don't get me wrong,
I like 1Gen diesels of the Art Deco era, kind of partial to early E's, F's.
Like the FM's too.

But the Alco bricks,
Not so much.

And yes, we have fun down here.
#97
QuoteDon't tell me the Alco PA wasn't a good looking diesel...

Now, I like both steam and diesel, can't say I have a preference.
Guess it depends on my mood, but...

"Really good looking diesel locomotive""?

That damn Alco made the blind kids run away.
Be thankful for that Pic.
No tellin' how many cameras were broke to get that one shot.

That's good stuff Sid!

Looks like the N Scale part of Banta Modelworks was sold to Commercial Scale Models, which seems to be a part of The Building & Structure Co., and Ulrich Model Kits.
Had to go the long way around before I got to where I wanted to go.

Good to see they are still being made.
That Pro Patria Mill kit will be is already on my Christmas wish list.

General Discussion / Re: coupler screws

If you're using MT couplers, (USA Manufacture) the screws are 00-90.

If you're using any other couplers (Asian Manufacturer) they are going to be Metric.
Most of these are MT clones.
Measure diameter and thread pitch (not TPI), two very different things.
They both can be sourced from hundreds of places.
You can also drill and tap to what you already have on hand.
Google is your friend.

HO / Re: DCC ready 2-8-2

QuoteThis means no decoder, right? DC operation, right?

Yes, you are correct.

QuoteBut I can operate it on DC in the meantime?

Yes you can, and should, because DC powered lokies don't play well on DCC powered track.

That's all good stuff Sid.
Every picture so far, is new to me.
I really love the pic with the wooden rails, that's the beginning of North American Railroading as we know it.

Thanks for posting, looking forward to more.

Many options to choose from...do a quick Google search.
I guess it all depends on how much you want (it) to spend.

Here's but another option:

Other sound cards are avaliable.
