I have no idea what to expect.

But what I would like to see is (1) SMALL steam, particularly a Spectrum DCC version of the 0-6-0 switcher; and (2) SHORT passenger cars, on the order of 60' to 67' with Spectrum level detailing.  These seem to be quite feasible for Bachmann to do, with little chance for competition and a large potential for the runner market, where small stuff actually works and looks best on the layouts that most of us can actually get operating.

I would also like to see the earlier small steam re-released, perhaps with sound as an option.

Agreed and an 0-4-0  The decapod. Just take a look at what steamers haven't been done, or haven't ever been done well and pick some things.

Also
A few early issues/observations have been sorted out below

http://www.bachmanntrains.com/home-usa/board/index.php/topic,29860.0.html

If that thread and perhaps another on this forum don't help sort things out, give Bachmann service a call. They stnd behind the product and will help you.

Having trouble copying links, on my phone, but check out spookshow.net, for a great review of both versions, of this loco and dcc sound installation in the newer release.

Go new To get started. Set up searches on ebay, based on keywords you remember from the set. You may come across it. But, if you want to enjoy yourself quickly, go new.
good luck

Please reread my response. All future "Spectrum" locomotives will feature a dual mode decoder which means it can run in DC or DCC mode. A sound "module" can be added by the consumer if they would like sound - nobody is forced to have sound if they do not want it. This statement pertains to HO scale (you asked about the HO Berkshire). In N scale there would really be no price difference between a decoder equipped loco and a Non-DCC loco since the decoder is built into the PC board. That is why all newer locos come equipped with a dual mode decoder. The N scale Berkshire is our first Steam loco equipped with sound in N scale. At some point in time it may be released in a non-sound version but it will feature a dual mode decoder - that's just how we do it now. We are sorry that you are not happy with the way we do things but there are many factors that we need to consider when we design and produce locomotives and this is the best way to please the most people (and dealers).

I will investigate this, this weekend, but I run DC and DCC. If I turn the sound off, using my DCC controller, will it stay off in DC?

Thanks

Because I run them in multiple places, some in the kitchen and near the tv? And because sound gets old? Why would you wonder why people want to do normal things :)

Google n scale layouts. You will find links to a number of layouts that use turnouts. I think you will see what the turnouts do.

N / Re: DCC engines running slow
February 24, 2015, 06:07:47 PM
So... assumptions aside, what do you mean? Are they just a bit slower and you wonder why, or are they creeping along unacceptably. unless things have changed ez command isnt compatible with jmri. If ez command doesn't allow you to make thr changes you want, you might consider a nce or digitrax system and tie it to jmri. It really opens up control options. DCC does have the versatility to allow you to speed up the trains. But, if you are just wondering about the slowness and can do what you want, you're fine.
