HO / Re: 2-8-0 Slight Surging
February 23, 2008, 07:26:53 AM
Besides the 2-8-0, are there other Bachmann steam that use this belt drive? Overall is this a good system compared to the worm gear? Herb, has this surging become less now that you have had more time to break in?

Thomas & Friends / Open Wagon
February 19, 2008, 07:39:10 PM
Can someone tell me the measurements for the Open Wagon? The lenght and width of the box. Also the distance from axle to axle center and the diameter of the spoked wheels. Also if there were no box and the car were sitting on a flat surface how high . Thank you.

On30 / Chivers Finelines Caboose
February 10, 2008, 09:56:49 PM
I have painted and lettered the caboose for the Allegan & Lake shore R.R. These are nice "little" all plastic kits. My question is: as the tail end car do I need to add any weight ?

General Discussion / Re: I beam color on '50s bridges
February 10, 2008, 09:45:16 PM
I would dullcoat the Concrete and the green I-beams. The railings could be steel or iron and if you like the green you could just dulcoat them also. If this were a Michigan highway bridge of about this timeframe the railings were steel with a very heavy galvanized dipped (not shiny) finish.

Did you return to Bachmann, or did you exchange it at the purchase location?

General Discussion / Steam era oil lamp lens
January 01, 2008, 09:19:00 PM
How do you make lens for oil style lamps? Dia 11/32. What do you use for an adhesive that will not show? Have seen just a few with nice clear lens. I have a Selly (white metal?) lamp for my On30 T- Boiler Shay. This along with removing the generator will make it look more like #94 as delivered. For any of you that need to back date an engine this detail from Bowser (just lucky) fits over the Bachmann light if you remove the visor.

HO / Re: Roundhouse or Bachamnn 4-4-0

If you want the look of the Bachmann as is, then buy it and add sound.
If you need to super detail your own particular look then consider the Roundhouse.
Detail then add sound or sound then add detail. You decide.

General Discussion / Re: LIFE LIKE

Unrealistic, but very close to prototypical. Here in Michigan several Interurban lines were forced to cross steam railroads on trestlework instead of at grade. The look like wood set that WoundedBear gave the link to is a very good/ quick start to one of these up and over trestles. Just add some to the underside to represent stringers. A little bit tuffer with the Power Lok track, maybe go with Gene and then hide the risers to look like a fill.

On30 / Re: On30 Climax and DCC

It sounds to me that you are probably talking about an On30 Climax which can run on HO track as they are advertised.

I do not model Maine. But I could use the WWF #10 on my A&L.S.R.R.

On30 / Re: IF YOU WERE BACHMANN'S CFO

I like all the current production. At this time I do not plan to purchase anything else. But, if some one built a Class A Climax: vertical boiler 4 wheel, vertical boiler 2 truck, or T-boiler 2 truck, then I could become enthusiastic again. Yes, these are too small and too simple but they would also be too fun.

About 1 1/2 yrs old I would stand and look through the back yard fence and watch the Western Pacific Rail Yard in Portola, Ca. Christmas 2nd grade I recieved a Life Like Train set. I have big ideas, but currently have just an 4'x6' oval of track to run trains on. I have two 1/87 scale models of local bridge and trestle and am working on a third that are part of my "big" idea. Big ideas but small/slow progress.
