On30 / iHobby Show
October 18, 2008, 03:49:31 PM
I just got back from the iHobby show.  Lots of great stuff.  I met the Bach Man finally, and he is a great guy who is very enthusiastic for our hobby.  He showed the new models to me, and they even had a TWEETSIE painted 4-6-0 (Sorry, no pictures as I had my 3 little ones with me).  The outside frame 4-4-0 is considerably bigger than the previous 4-4-0.  That and the railcar look pretty good.  I also saw the new underframes.  I can hardly wait to change out my old ones.

I also had the opportunity to try out the new Dynamis DCC system.  I can't tell you how easy it was to work, and with one hand!  Thanks Mr. Bach Man for holding my youngest while I tried out the Dynamis.  I know he appreciated watching Thomas go around your layout.  Very soon here I will have both my On30 and HO Thomas up and running on the same layout.

That's looks great, Jacky!  And thanks for reviving this thread.  I had recalled discussions of 2-6-2T's in military service.  As I'd like to see Bachmann create a 2-6-2T model, I hope they see the possibilities out there so that they can get a lot of mileage out of their investment.

Hey C.S.R.R.,
very nice work.  What video editing software are you using?

We want more!  ;D

On30 / Re: Outside Frame 30 Inch 2-6-2T

my preference would be for the 36inch gauge Baldwin Bulldog prototype, designed to allow conversion to On3.

I'm fine with that, but I believe the "Bulldog Baldwins" were all delivered as 0-6-2, and I'd like the option of easily making it a 2-6-2T.  Its just my preference to have a leading truck on my steam engines.  And others out there would like to see an easy conversion and/or multiple option model that could be made into a "Puffing Billy."

Mr Bach Man, let's get going on this.  ;)  Does anyone have any drawings?  ;D

As was mentioned in another thread, how about some cars used to haul sugar cane out of the fields?  Something with a Caribbean and/or Hawaiian flavor.

I read that the Wailuku Sugar Company P.C. Jones (The 2-6-2 Tank loco pictured in the Gazette) was converted to a tankless 0-6-2 and had a 4-wheel tender added.  I would seem to me that Bachmann could make a basic version with various possibilities easily enough.

Do you know why they converted these to 0-6-2, and then later ordered them built as 0-6-2s?  Was the pilot truck derailing on the temporary tracks?  Were they too heavy with the saddle tanks?  Just curious.

Thanks.

Mr. Bach Man,
Now that I've seen the Baldwin export 2-6-2T NA class locomotives that were sent down under, you could make these as well!  And they are 30 inch gauge.  They are almost identical cousins to the Hawaiian locomotives.

Hamish,
I'll try to scan a copy of the builders photo tomorrow (Sunday) and send it to you.  Email me so I can get your email address at ebay@boomersjunction.com

On30 / Outside Frame 30 Inch 2-6-2T
August 01, 2008, 02:08:26 PM
Hey Mr. Bach Man,
Take a look at the latest issue of Narrow Gauge & Shortline Gazette (July/August 2008).  There is an article "Along the Narrow Gauge - Thirty-Inch Gauge Railroads - Hawaiian Plantation Lines" that has an excellent picture of a Outside Frame 30 Inch 2-6-2T.  Since this is a prototype 30 inch gauge engine, I think this would be a swell addition to your line of On30.  ;D  What do you think?

Thanks.

I did not realize that lowering the cars meant purchasing new trucks.  Do the new Bachmann lowered frames ride on new trucks?

On30 / Re: Dynamis DCC

I have not specifically asked any companies, but if you google "Bachmann Dynamis DCC" and then click <shopping> you should see plenty of store hits with a wide range of prices.  I've also seen it through eBay, both auctions and stores.

BTW, Mr Bach-Man, I'm still looking for a manual before I commit.  Any chance of scanning the manual?  :-\

Thanks.

The auction started low (as many do), but this unit will sell for around $200 I'm going to guess.  I personally wouldn't trust buying from someone who lists it as "C-10 Mint Brand New", and then somewhere in the middle of his description discloses the broken part.  Seems shifty to me.    :-\

what about putting an O scale cab on the new HO 4-6-0?  What other details would need to be changed?  Steps, ladders?
