Dear MM,

Make and model of your transformer, please?

Thanks.

Wow, nice find, Hunt.

Tons of ideas...

Scroll down to the 2.5' x 5' section...  and... voila,  there they are..

B44,

Given your space restriction and list of track pieces, I'd guess you want to build a combined oval and Figure-8.

This would need a DCC auto-reverser and insulated rail joiners to work.

Start building it on the AnyRail.com track CAD program.

Free download for first 50 track pieces, and fun to learn and use.

https://www.anyrail.com/index_en.html

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

RD,

My latter design checks out both on my AnyRail screen and the list transcribed here on the Bachmann Board.

*On AnyRail it shows no (zero) mathematical error in the X or Y direction, (probably within 0.005" - lucky break),

and shows no (zero) angle (degrees) error.

I did clarify the list with "ea."  instead of a dash "-".

Try it on AnyRail again, it should work.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Joe Satnik

Edit: *This, of course, depends on how close AnyRail's mathematical models are to the real track pieces.

Edit: Changed "compass" error to "angle (degrees)" error.

As requested:

Hunt first loop: $148                              2nd loop: $97.25       total both loops: $245.25

Joe first loop:  $180                               2nd loop: $97.25       total both loops: $277.25

Difference:        $32 or +21.6%                               $0 or 0%                           $32 or +13.0%

This is using my latter design with pseudo-easements.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Joe Satnik

Edit: change to "latter"

RD,

Hmm, I think my second attempt fits fairly nicely on my AnyRail screen.

Perhaps I transcribed it wrong, or the order got messed up or something.

I'll double check on my end... gotta run for a bit, though.

One loop or two?

Entire cost of packages, including unused/leftover track pieces, or just what is used ?

Bulk/individual cost (where applicable) or just package cost?

List prices or street prices?

Dear All,

Another No-Kink turn-around loop solution, a bit more elegant,

with pseudo-easments on the ends of the 18" curves, but not on the 22"R.

1 ea. 44565. Remote Left turnout #5

Start connecting track on through (mainline) route, precise order is important:

1 ea. 44592-3 Straight 1-1/4" from straight fitter assortment

1 ea. 44513 Straight 2-1/4"

4 ea. 44511 Straight 9"

1 ea. 44508 (1/3) Curve radius 33.25"-6 degrees to left (pseudo-easement)

1 ea. 44531 (Half) Curve radius 18"-15 degrees to left

7 ea. 44501 Curve radius 18"-30 degrees to left

1 ea. 44508 (1/3) Curve radius 33.25"-6 degrees to left (pseudo-easement)

2 ea. 44511 Straight 9"

2 ea. 44503 Curve radius 22"-22.5 degrees to right

1 ea. 44592-4  Straight 1.5" from straight fitter assortment

Again, try it on AnyRail.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Joe Satnik

Edit:  replaced "-"(dash)  with "ea." for clarity

Dear All,

There are many solutions to make that turn-around loop,

you just have to play with your CAD program and a calculator (slope formula) till you stumble onto a No-Kink one.

One No-Kink solution inspired by (totally ripped off from) Hunt:

For the loop on left

1 - 44565. Remote Left turnout #5

Start connecting track on through (mainline) route, precise order is important:

1 - 44513 Straight 2-1/4"

4 - 44511 Straight 9"

1 - 44501 Curve radius 18"-30 degrees to left

1 - 44509 (2/3) Curve radius 33.25"-12 degrees to left

1 - 44531 (Half) Curve radius 18"-15 degrees to left

6 - 44501 Curve radius 18"-30 degrees to left

2 - 44511 Straight 9"

2 - 44592-5  Straight 2" from straight fitter assortment, or 44541S,  Straight 2" from 90 degree crossing

2 - 44503 Curve radius 22"-22.5 degrees to right

For fun, build it on AnyRail.

Thanks to Bachmann for the large variety of E-Z Track pieces.

Free the 2" Straights. (Blast from the past.)

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Joe Satnik

Caution - Terminology:

Cap = capacitor?  or

Cap = physical motor brush holder ?

LG,

The choice of around 58 different track pieces vs. 10 for the LL steel.

Hope this helps.

Large / Re: Bachmann Steel Turnout Shorting

Another check....

Nothing on the track, DCC running,

can you cause a short by just pushing down on the frog or rails around it with your finger?

jviss,

Is the curved point rail being shorted to the straight point rail by the wheels, or

is the divergent frog rail being shorted to the mainline frog rail?

Does the short occur on both routes and in both directions?

Joe
