HO / 1990's (?) Bachmann 4-8-4
September 06, 2015, 01:54:42 PM
I found a Bachmann 4-8-4 numbered 6005 from a packed away box when my kids were young. I think it is from the 1990's and tried running it. It ran good for a few days and actually still smoked. Then the drive gear locked up and will not move. I tried googling the loco to find a parts list or an instruction manual to troubleshoot or disassemble and had no luck. I tried Bachmanns web site and had no luck. Any help?

Thanks to Jerrys HO and Hunt. I will not polarize the turnouts.

Understand about the pickup. Would I cause any harm by polarizing the turnouts as a matter of fact instead of having to take them up since I currently am DC but will be switching to DCC and do not know what kind of loco power I will be purchasing? Thank you Hunt.

HO / 44565 and 44566 turnouts
August 21, 2015, 03:37:06 PM
I am starting to lay my track and I have several of the above turnouts. When reading the package it talks about polarizing the metal frog. Should I do this automatically to avoid a problem down the road in case I use a short locomotive so to avoid taking the turnout back out the the layout? The layout for now is DC.

General Discussion / Foam board
August 20, 2015, 01:05:56 PM
I have glued my 2" foam board to my 1x4 boards that are spaced on 16" centers. I have some seams and depressions that I want to fill in to make a smooth surface. Would like to know what filler material to use on the foam. The layout is HO in a bedroom with heat and AC. Would you also paint the foam board ahead of track laying or after track is laid. Thanks in advance.

HO / Cutting HO EZ track
August 08, 2015, 12:59:34 PM
I have to cut some HO EZ track to match up to a Walthers bridge track. Is there a video or thread I can go to see or read how to do this? I already have the transitional track joiners to go from code 83 to code 100. What tools should I use?

General Discussion / Woodland Scenics Hot Stick

I am looking to purchase a foam cutter and saw the Woodland Scenics Hot cutter. Has anyone used this item and have any pros and cons? I will be using it to cut 2" foam in straight lines and then cut layered foam on angles for for scenery and streams.

I am planning to use the 44569 just as a wye in the yard but noticed that description says it meets NMRA DCC specifications. I was going to use a 44576 crossover in another part but found out that it can not be used on a DC layout. I just wanted to make sure that I can use this wye on a DC layout.

HO / EZ Track questions
July 09, 2015, 03:54:36 PM
Can a Bachmann #44569 wye be used on a DC layout ? I want to install a Walthers 933-3185 single track truss bridge. I am using NS EZ track. What should I use  for track to install on this bridge?
