Installing the Ernest gear kit may require the truck be swapped (I know for 6 axle trucks, not sure on the 4 axle version). The regeared truck will run backwards and needs to be changed.

I'm away from my data sheets, so someone may have to see theirs to make sure the trucks are correctly positioned.

E-bay depends on the SELLER.
E-bay is only a portal for buying/selling.

I'm on e-bay as a buyer and seller.

Early Amtrak policy forced a few private cars (heavyweights) to be painted in Amtrak Phase I if they want to be hauled in the back of their train. An ICG business car (HW Open end Obs) was painted so it can be on the rear of the City of New Orleans.

A M T R A K is the proper spelling, not A M T R A C K

I noted many publication uses (incorrectly) the term "friction" bearings when they talk about the older cotton waste soaked in oil journal boxes. This is to differentiate from the roller bearing journal boxes.

The term "solid" is much suited for these older type of bearings than the term "friction".

This maybe at one time the term "anti-friction" was used to describe roller bearing journals.

Hopefully you don't start calling locomotive cab a "cockpit", or talk about cargo trains.

Just a though.

Thanks for the information!  I'm sure I'll be back, but this is a good starting place.

I spent some of my "wonder years" in Kingman Arizona, playing on #3759 (4-8-4 Northern).  I'm sketching out the changes to make my Bachmann 3780 look more like 3759.

I googled them, but didn't get anything useful.  Do you have contact information?

Thanks again,

Dave

I joined the Santa Fe Modeler and Technical Society for that reason.

They have a good bunch of ATSF freight car reference books for sale.

It's not scale length anyway (72'?).

Get the PK1 for 85 feet of RDC for only $5.00 more than the regear kit (if you can find one).

The units are based on the SD90 shell are are cataloged as Heritage Units, not as SD70ACE Heritage Units.
The short hood is not correct for the Heritage Units

The major differences (spotting features) are as follows;

The SD90 rear hood is squared off. The SD70 has the standard EMD wedge.
Both model use a flush level dynamic brake fan in the rear.

The SD90 use three radiator fans. The SD70 uses two fans.
Ditto on the radiator sections.

Reference is Diesel Era Magazine
J/A 05 for the UP SD70ACE
S/O 02 for the CP SD90MAC

PS - Remember when Lionel called a geep with a dynamic brake blister as a GP9 and the one without it a GP7?
Things never change.....

Just pause to look at what we have that is in the Bills of Rights.

Look at what they have and look at their living conditions.

Remember those who are no longer with us who died while fighting and defending what we as American believe in.

Thanks to our brothers and sisters for making American the best in the world.
